The Manchester Evening News published day hike directions every Friday in the 1960's.
Using the news article we took the saturday 8am morning train from M/C central station to Hayfield and hiked by way of kinder over the top to Edale.
Then took the 3 pm afternoon train from Edale back to M/C. This was 60 years ago.
No crowds like today, we never saw more than one or two people, today its rather crowded.
I walked up to Kinder Scout with my lovely Rough Collie Jake and later Alfie both Lassie dogs in the snow and saw a Hare that was totally white the views were amazing and on both occasions i loved it . Jake passed away 10 years ago and Alfie 6 months ago and they have both given me so many good memories in the Peak District and helping me complete the Wainwrights precious memories i will never forget . Love your videos .
ОтветитьAlex - sorry I'm a bit late here, but have just discovered your channel and I'm catching-up on some brilliant videos. Can I ask - I've been fancying doing the Edale Skyline from Hope in the spring with a camp about 2/3rds the way round, do you think Lord's Seat would be a good location with the added bonus of a possible sunrise over Mam Tor? ...now back to those videos - cheers!
ОтветитьGreat video you have inspired me to go here thanks
ОтветитьIf you're wanting to tackle "challenge walks" have you tried the Yorkshire 3 Peaks?
ОтветитьAmazing walk, well done. Thank you for creating and sharing
ОтветитьOk cadet😊
ОтветитьNice one! I'm inspired to come back again and do this walk now.
ОтветитьFantastic video mate. I’m currently doing the Peak District trig point challenge, I’ve got this walk on my to-do list but gonna add on a little bit to bag Kinder Low and Edale Moor trigs. Liked and subscribed 🙂
ОтветитьThe Hope Valley is one of my favourite places. A place where you can meet some of the most wonderful souls from all over the country.
ОтветитьWow! Fantastic journey and video. You picked a perfect day. I'll be doing this in September, but over two days (as me and my dog are getting on a bit). New subscriber.
ОтветитьGotta do this! I'llk do it over 2 days and a camp. Great vid!
ОтветитьWill be back there end of June to skyline for Mind. My baby place ... My home ❤
ОтветитьWith filming Alex, how long did it take?
ОтветитьWhat a great and inspiring video 😮
ОтветитьTrying this rout Saturday 🥳 can’t wait.
ОтветитьDid this yesterday... by Mile 18 I was cursing you... but at the end I was made up.. thanks for the video as I'd have never known about this route otherwise... 👍
ОтветитьLoved it mate can't wait to get out myself very soon
ОтветитьAlex, I know this is a year ago, but you are a machine. 10 miles 'legs feel good'. I did the 13.08 miles total to Alport Moor and back, and it wiped me out. Mind you, I'm probably older than your Dad. You said he was 70 odd, but I think you gest. I'm 61 and 3 off finishing my Ethel Challenge. Now you were asking for ideas. It isn't a big one, but the Crowden Horse Shoe would be a great vlog. I've only done it half way round but on the 88 Trig Point Challenge, I'm hoping to complete it. As regards this vlog. Another fantastic one Alex, thank you for sharing.
ОтветитьWow, what a stunning day and an amazing walk! Well done!
🤞 I have good weather like this for when I take it on.
Thanks Rob
I did this walk yesterday. It was fantastic. My legs were knackered afterwards, though. 👍
ОтветитьGreat video. One for my list this year hopefully
ОтветитьSuperb channel. Cheers from Cornwall.
ОтветитьGreat video Alex! Will definitely have to do this next summer when I’m in the Peak District again! What rab jacket have you got and also shoes?
ОтветитьAre you using anything for navigation when out and about??
ОтветитьI just did a wild camp on Mam Tor, first time there, just incredible! Great video, Thanks Alex!
ОтветитьReally great video mate. Loved it.
ОтветитьHi Alex, great video. Made me get my boots on and do it today. Keep up the good work and cheers!
ОтветитьThis is a great video and shows perfectly the way to do the Edale Skyline challenge. I am going to do this walk with a group and midwives and friends next weekend to raise money for mental health in maternity. I will share this recording with them. Thanks Alex.
ОтветитьHow did you prepare yourself for this 20 mile beautiful hike? What type of hiking shoes do you wear?
ОтветитьGreat video. Did Win Hill last year but not via the Edale skyline, but up Parkin clough. I don't recommend that at all, it's a difficult ascent and there are no views on the way, but the views at the top are absolutely worth it!
ОтветитьFantastic video Alex.
I'm now really enjoying your videos.
Great video!,you had great weather for it im doing this Friday so was good to get to see what's expected 👍
ОтветитьGreat video, really enjoyed that 👍
ОтветитьWe walked this yesterday- starting in Edale. Sore legs today but boy was it worth it. 😊 Great video, btw.
ОтветитьGreat video. I completed this walk just yesterday and it is as fabulous as you describe. I added on a detour to Hope for a full English at Granny Mays Tea Room which is a fine enhancement to route.
ОтветитьBrilliant vid that mate, thoroughly enjoyed it 👍
ОтветитьDid this 21 mile loop on Sunday 19th March 2022..my first big hike..was amazing and epic views..but 11 hrs is a long day
ОтветитьAbsolutely Stunning scenery, perfect day for it 👌 Thanks for sharing.
ОтветитьI’m keen to do this hike, might try it as a 2 parter with a wild camp in the middle. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. The Peak District is so incredibly beautiful and full of amazing views and countryside 😃
