This test limits the EFI and takes away much of what it should bring. No hating here just facts. The manifold is all part of it.
ОтветитьWhat an awesome video. It was very exciting watching It. probably was even more exciting being personally there.
ОтветитьOnly took 7 pulls to get what the engine builder wanted after the very first one - add fuel and rev it out to 6500
ОтветитьWhy did you allow your viewers to all chose different engine parts when they obviously don't have a clue what is needed to make a race engine. The combinations were terrible. I'll bet that it doesn't even have a 4-Bolt Main Block? Right.. Who chose a hydraulic cam anyway. It should have had a High Lift Solid Roller Cam in it..
ОтветитьYeah, I'd be lying to say that efi wasn't huge for daily driving. Instant starts. Better idle. No dicking around. It works or it don't.
Ответитьthis is carb vs tbi... not efi
Ответитьyou used trash efi...
ОтветитьKinda cool. Thanks.
ОтветитьI’m with you, Nick, I’d much rather have a carburetor because you do not need a computer to make it work. EFI is nice, but I’m like you old-school, give me a carburetor any day.
ОтветитьThere is far too much that can go wrong on modern cars , give me simple old technology any day ..
ОтветитьI bought a holley efi kit...$2200 sat on it and decided to sell it.
There unreliable.. are a nightmare to setup..
And there nowhere as reliable as a 4bbl holley or simple to trouble shoot. I have never seen these efi things in racing
How fast would both systems come up to 400 hp . Seems carbs would be quicker to me , i don’t know .
ОтветитьThat was a very educational video. Thanks for sharing. I have always wondered how they would compare against each other.
ОтветитьPut timing at 36 advance
ОтветитьIf you don’t know C&S Specialties out of St Charles Missouri have been building custom carburetor’s for I think 25 plus years and all they need is the cab housing nothing else and I think they can get the Housings from Holey and this place is hidden a way in the middle of a corn field and the only thing that makes you think something is going on is 3 big electric motors hooked up 3 big supper charges and the use to see what your cfm is. They told me most carbs out of the box will not flow as advertised and the machine out the central’s and epoxy metal sleeves to make the flow the numbers and they gave me a tour but did not let me see the final bill room. I have a 502 bbc and I wanted a 800 Holey and when I put it on my boat motor and there are no chokes but starts super easy and throttle response is unbelievable and ran it for 20 yrs and it started running rich and make black soot on back of boat. So took it to C&S for rebuild and updates so the rebuild it and updated to Airasol billet and man it is so nice and they supply you with 2 sets of jets one bigger and one set smaller and like last time the plugs run tan not white and not black. They also make custom fuel injection systems that are great too have not ran one, but you need to check them out and you will be surprised and a little hint they are not cheap .
ОтветитьI saw that distributor turn a lot
ОтветитьNot one mention of Injector Timing or Injector Latency. I could see Injector Angle"Timing" issues in both the afr readout vs rpm vs map and you could clearly see it in above video cam. Bad test thanks for trying though
ОтветитьGreat video!!! I liked how each system was discussed at the end = pros and cons for each and really a good set up each way!!!
ОтветитьBest one carburettor 😅😅😅
ОтветитьCarburettor is the one 😅😅😅😅
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьI just don't see spending the extra money when you have such a learning curve to tune an efi correctly not to mention the excessive time involved. A good quality carb, for the masses is going to be less efficient but more enjoyable when it comes to diy.
ОтветитьMe quedo a la vieja escuela , carburador..
ОтветитьWith all the filler sounds i couldnt hear what you were saying
ОтветитьI wouldn't mind learning tuning software tbh. I don't have any fancy toys or anything like that, but I wouldn't mind tuning what I do have. ESPECIALLY transmission parameters.
ОтветитьReally enjoyed watching the comparison, you guys are awesome!!! 😎👍
ОтветитьVery interesting video. We're all getting in the new tech it's pretty cool. The engine did sound better on the two last pulls. I was very reluctant with new technology but now I have electronic ignition and fuel injection. I've finally learned to appreciate it. Few engines to me sound as good as a Chevy 350 4 bbl dual exhaust but again I can appreciate the new machine. I've got nostalgia of my 73 Monte Carlo with the swivel seats. Accepting the things of today is now fine with me. Thanks again for this very informative video. 👍
ОтветитьWished I had a buddy in Montana that had a Dyno. I’m building a 383 and would love to put it on one
ОтветитьBasic 355 w chinese heads and summit roller cam - pretty impressive- probably about 4500 for all the parts- just my guess- thats great hp for the money imo
Ответитьdistributor was loose on the first pull
ОтветитьTen horsepower for $1500. I read about constant reliability problems with these "fuel injection" 1980s technology units.
ОтветитьYeah, I'll enjoy the factory FI on my Lexus daily driver but on a hot rod gimme one of Nicks DBBL Pumpers. I'd rather ride than tinker with the computer.
ОтветитьCarb for burnouts. Efi for reliability
ОтветитьUsing EFI, isn't there supposed to be a bung in the collector to adjust the air/fuel ratio?
Ответитьdistributor is moving on the pulls!!! Awesome idea, good education.
ОтветитьAll the current aftermarket EFi bolt ons are still way too problematic for me to ever trust one. Last carb I used on my Pontiac from 1993-2017 without one problem at all. Always ran great, it’s a 1973 Chevy 750 Quadrajet. I still have it. Used it every weekend 7 months a year and sometimes many weeks in use. In 2017 I switched to a Cliff Ruggles built 800+Cfm Quadrajet on my newly built 1969 four bolt main Pontiac 400/406. Last month I installed 340CFM CNC ported Kauffman Aluminum cylinder heads with portmatched intake & a Quick Fuel BDQ 950 with Road Race floats. Bet I will get 10+ years of use out of it with not one problem and or also need for any advanced equipment or electronics. My ignition is a newly professional recurved MSD Probillet Distributor, MSD 6AL digital box & MSD Pro blaster coil. Currently she puts down 583 peak hp @ 5200 Rpm & 634 Peak Lb Ft of Tq at 4150Rpm to the rear wheels. Unless it’s a TBI I will never trust any EFi till it’s proven it’s self. Fuel pump I use is a Carter 140Gpm. My BDQ 950 is jetted down from #78 jets to #74,s, rear jets from #84 to #82,s. Jeff Kauffman told me my heads he built for me will flow up to 1200 CFM of carb. That’s a lot of room to play with yet. No Power Adders needed too, 😉!
ОтветитьAnd all the engine builder would say that way to much Carb but its about right i wonder what jets Holley has in their
Ответитьreally good show!
ОтветитьDoes using that particular EFI save from using products like Seabreeze?
Ответить'When it comes down to it- it's the simplicity of the efi" he says....
Pat you won't even share your screen with your viewers- afraid they gonna steel your special formula...who you trying to fool budd 😂😎✅......
And i went back & checked the # on the Holly 750. And it made 429 Hp not 425 Hp... I think Nick was just being nice to Pat....
That & Pats efi is a 865 cfm compared to Nick's 750.... So, if the 355 is call for 800 plus cfm.... Doesn't matter if its a carb or efi- the one that will produce that much of a higher cfm has an immediate advantage in increasing hp- on any day of the week...
Pats efi is producing a whooping 115 more cfi then Nicks Holly...
To mention the Holly was only tested like 4 times- when compared against the 10 plus times Pat's efi was tested for 😆.... I think the Holly would've won if given that many chances.. I say let's run it right back!!
Sorry Pat, but I'm definitely not sold on your efi setup based off this performance alone.
It would be interesting to find out to see if there's any horsepower change just by running different octane fuels . Like pump gas compared to racing fuel compared to aviation fuel
ОтветитьNice to see the carb vs efi comparison test. That’s pretty impressive performance from that small engine considering. Lots of runs and the engine seems to like the higher r.p.m.‘s. I haven’t watched Nick for a while and this was refreshing to see.👍👍🇨🇦
ОтветитьThe excitement in Nick's face is like a four year old on Christmas Eve. He definitely loves his job and loves to share his knowledge. It was a joy to watch 👍
ОтветитьThe Distributor DEFINITELY TURNED !!
A SLICK NICK MOVE !!
Thats cool how the timing sets itself like that after a pull😂😂😂
ОтветитьExcellent comparison, carburetor, verses electronic,
GO Nick !
Awesome how the fuel flows with the EFI. Much more even than the carburetor.
ОтветитьI've been toying with the idea to go EFI for so many years but every time I entertain the thought and do some research, I find so many people having electrical and reliability issues with EFI systems. My Qjet has never failed me, so I think I'll hold on to it for now.
