These stone walls are so picturesque to me because you don’t see this where I live. What a great building material for so many things.
Did you hire an architect to design your reconstruction of your home and a contractor to assist you with the build? I don’t know what building codes exist in rural Portugal. Was it necessary to remove the roof hips? Home looks amazing. Im sure many are interested in what your total cost to refurbished where and if you had any difficulties with the building authorities?

I thought that the project overall looked rather good. My biggest concern is that the inside of the original house was not reinforced with a steel (ideally) or concrete beam support structure to support the original walls. In a tectonically active region like Italy, I could see problems caused by a moderate earthquake. These types of structures are the type that collapsed in Morrocco. I don't think that this renovation would meet California building codes because of the instability of the original stone walls in the event of an earthquake.

this video is solid evidence that starting from scratch is much easier than correcting someone else's mistake. i am quite sure if you bought a plain farmland and started to build same house, it would be easy, less time consuming and economic

Yes a complete rebuild....the stone walling and cladding that he did was fantastic. So much work it makes me tired just watching. Deffinitely a young persons game.

I remember watching another couple renovating another stone house or barn that looked the same than this one. A couple with 2 daughters. Is it the same house?

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to build a new house? You guys definitely have the skills to build a new house from scratch. All you really saved here were four walls but added so much work.
