This from (in my opinion) the most interesting and cool WM contract in Southern California. Rancho Santa Fe. (Some may have said Del Mar was more interesting, but its off the table now). This is a very unique suburban city of San Diego County, Hilly and cluttered with foliage. Due to the class of most residents in the city and general geographical situation the city is in, until 2021 most of the city was collected Manually.
Nowadays the city is collected semi-automated using mini rear loaders with tippers. WM likely bought mini rear loaders all these years because of some of the tight private roads and the fact most of the stops are on relatively small 2 lane main roads that need to be serviced. I noticed this part of SD county earlier this year and very much became interested in filming here, and mapped out collection days and some collection times using WM’s site. Anyway about 9 months later during a trip to San Diego I went out to find a truck in the one of the easier routes to film.
Immediately I see this truck on trash. I follow him around for a little and it’s everything I had hoped for, this is quite rare for WM. And the scenery was something else. Anyways I was amazed to see WM was also running an ASL in the neighborhood to get the recycle or greens done. This is likely rare and can only happen in a small handful of places such as this route where Full size ASLs won’t have issues getting access to the carts. Semi automated collection is among my favorite methods of trash collection to watch, so I hope everyone enjoys this one.
Thanks to the driver for being cool and making this an Awesome experience.
