One major problem is that even if they share the information, they will make it so annoyingly difficult and time consuming to deter people from repairing themselves.

I know this video is 2 years old so I’m unsure if anything has changed, but knowing what I know about politics I highly doubt it lol

Fwiw I said "massholes" out loud before you even got there. Not proudly. Not to diminish. Because I was a Boston resident while I cut my teeth driving and that's simply the name. No offense taken.

Working on computers does not have to be difficult, the PC building hobby proves that. What we need are standards that manufacturers need to follow.

Complexity at its core is a huge reason people dont care to learn about vehicles in general. Adding simplicity makes people more apt to learn and try things on their own. As someone who lives in the rust belt id still rather own a 20+ year old 💩box than something new simply because when it goes down im not fighting tooth and nail to repair it. Its pushed even harder by lack of replacement part availibility since the pandemic began.

OK I just wanna get this straight. Car manufactures would rather that innocent individual human beings be convicted of imaginary sex crimes against children rather than let their own loyal customers repair theor owned vehicles? Not remotely surprised. End these companies permanently. Data sovereignty now.

It should be illegal to make anything for consumers unless they have a right to repair. I get if its extremely dangerous and you need years of training but that doesnt apply to most things. Like 90% of the shit on your car can be fixed by anyone with a little time, effort, and the internet.

Auto manufacturers don't want you or I driving our cars past warranty.

They want their "product" to last right up until the very end of it and not any longer than necessary - they want you to buy a new car to makes things all better.

Look into the right to repair on the Upcoming Aptera car. It sounds awesome. I understand there are QR codes on all the parts that give you that part number and repair instructions, they will send the parts to you directly or to your mechanic. Its a solar electric car. 0-60 in 3.5 and 1000 mile range . Its coming out this year.

Mercedes Benz has a online library called ISP PORTAL one year subscription is three thousand dollars. Plus up to 10 thousand for OBD2 EQUIPMENTFOR FOR CODING ACCESS AND REPROGRAMING, SOME OBD2 EQUIPMENT COST EVEN MORE . PLUS A NASTY LEARNING CURVE!!!!!!!!!!!. Best way to fix this is for consumers quit buying cars for couple years. We would save a ton of money on purchases. It would be grate if people would co-op made the own cars.I THINK SPARK - FUEL MANAGEMENT AND SRS IS REALLY ALL THAT IS REQUIRED. The other additonal 20 plus controllers is a serious problem.Right now its like car manufacures own us . Reminds me of windows buying win 95 buy win 97 xp win 7 win 10. Car repair buy scanners upgrade buy activation encodind and programing buy scope read packets and wave paterns on can bus.LEARN CAN BUS, 5 VOLT REFERNCE LIN AND MANY OTHER COMUNICATION SYSTEMS . Its totally out of control God someone save us. And buying simple would save us its are legs not life.

You know, I'm a tech for a John Deere dealer and I know for a fact that we've been selling the software for repair to consumers for a long time. Now I'm not saying after spending half a million dollars on a tractor and then having to pay a subscription for the software to use it isn't a little messed up but thinking about how much time the digital engineers put into it does make it more understandable. I mean even the dealers have to pay for the subscription so it's only fair. I can't tell you how many times these customers don't wanna pay the bill because they don't value my time for making sure their tractor doesn't come back for the same issue anytime soon. Now, I'm not saying that they shouldn't allow for the software to be distributed to those who are not authorized dealers because that's just stupid, what I am saying is that there are certain instances that this has been blown completely out of proportion.

I have an idea. We should make it so company’s have to support a “major” product for a minimum amount of time. If we tackle it from this angle in most right to repair sectors (mine being mobile phone repair and I love Luis’s videos) it would allow time for mechanics and technicians to figure out the system and revere engineer it. It seems the average time for the systems to be sorted is about 1-2 years for phones and computers. And cars 3-5 years. So let’s say we force them to maintain support parts wise for vehicles for 10 years minimum to start. That would allow people to buy a car like new hopefully or lightly used that’s a model year 5 years behind. Or even brand new (and hoping there’s no major issue within the time period to figure it out). This allows people to when they need to or soon after find solutions to problems and 3rd party tools easy enough and is almost always cheaper at independent repair shops too. Even most likely a tutorial online from whoever figured it out first or second. The only issue with this plan to outsmart them is it requires funding and lots of time and dedication. They are fighting us and we must fight harder to win like in any fight. Harder and smarter.

lmfao we all know politicians are corrupt and benefit from their dealings. This will just get worse and worse. Its easy, just buy an older car. If they start taking our older cars away, then its time to revolt EZ. Washington DC could never stop an entire country and they know that, thats why they keep you fearful.
