But in the cartoon, Xavier says he knew Scott would give his life for other mutant's. But this shows cyclops did not care to be in the school.

Showing the tree burned in flames is bad writing. Cyclops' optic blast is of concussive force, not heat. It isn't Superman's heat vision.
