New Kia Sportage 2022 review

How are you today?

I'm sure it's a matter of taste but by this time the look of it should have been grown on you like a lot, cause... I just love it. It's not ugly, it's interestingly beautiful.

It's a shame that here in the UK, we get an inferior Sportage to many other markets. We only get a short wheelbase. We only get black interiors, whereas the USA gets red, grey and black. Plus a 24 spec gets a green interior. I've seen a US model with zipped bags built into the back of the front seats. We won't. Why?

I liked the styling of old Kia cars. These new designs are just ugly.

I drove one but it wasn't a GT & it was a Guttles heap of crap that you had to drive it hard to get to 100kmph . Maybe the GT is better but I don't know . I drove it for 6 weeks & wouldn't buy one

I have a Kia sportage it's a great car.it's 9 years old and it's great

Checked it out today along with the hyundai tucson.. then went to see a Mazda Cx-5 the looks and quality of the Mazda just blew the other two away for me.

Good price/value ratio, horrible horrible horrible exterior looks

Another excellent review, I’m about to replace my 17 plate Sportage, it’s done 63k miles and I haven’t had to change so much as a bulb…this will definitely be on my shopping list.

Can anyone shed some light on real world mpg for the full hybrid? There are very mixed figures out there. Thanks.

This car looks fantastic, you can get a spare wheel if you get the full hybrid model ! These reviews are never satisfied ! No car is perfect for them , just test drive one and make your own mind up

Kia should introduce seltos in UK. Have that in india and I really crave one in uk :( perfect small sized suv

It's very stylish and futuristic. I personally prefer the Tucson design and it grew on me...

This current gen Sportage has some competitive features but my gripe with the Kia/Hyundai brand generally is their haphazard design strategy. They seem to be flip flopping between different design cues and ideas as opposed to following a clearly defined, more evolutionary approach to exterior design. Nothing about their cars have a signature look or 'stamp' that makes me say "that's gotta be a Kia" before even seeing the name or badge. Every maker's cars should achieve this and the Koreans really miss the mark on that.

I should have watched your review before signing up for one that takes 10months to deliver. But still after watching, I feel I made the right decision.

2 things that put me off this car. 1 the dash is like having a pc monitor stuck in front of the steering wheel design would be better inset into something.... Sexier to look at!! 2 the suspension.

What about MHEV hybrids in Europe - 150hp and 180 hp

The Philippine-spec Sportage didn't have these features until the following years:

No Bluetooth until 2019
No Touchscreen until 2019
No Touchscreen Reverse Camera until 2019

So far, the newer 2022 Sportage wasn't launched here yet.

Not sure i like the front but no worse than the rav4. I thought you could buy a front wheel drive hybrid rather than the awd mentioned in the review ?

Kia suspension is horrible. I had to trade mine in as it was hurting my back.. great car let down by a terrible sports suspension

I am not sure if anyone explained the brake thing and I am a bit late here, but it is literally called creep groan (so your description was perfect). What is going on is the static coefficient of friction and the dynamic are different. The static friction coefficient along with the force on the pads determines when something can brake free and start moving while the dynamic coefficient determines the braking force when the surface of the rotor is moving. At specific forces from your caliper, typically when creeping forward, you are hitting the point where it can brake free and move, but then the dynamic forces kick in which are higher and stop the movement. Then they brake free again, then they stop, and so on. It is called stick slip. The constant stopping and starting causes a vibration which sounds like a groan. This kind of thing is often exacerbated by low temps or humidity as they affect the friction coefficients of the pads which can then make creep groan worse. Some cars also exhibit this phenomenon near the end of a regular braking stop and we often call that graunch.

There's essentially two solutions, change the pad material or try to dampen the vibration. Of course a different pad material can cause other issues and dampening the vibration often leads to more weight and cost.
