Tips: learn how to drift. Put the items in ready to use mode (put it back (L)) and hold it there so you can use that as defense against shell attacks from the back. Squeeze L & R to do a flip on ledges and get a small speed boost off of that.

When you drift, their's sparks, the sparks is yellow when you drift for a short time, when you drift longer you will get blue sparks. The blue sparks make boost so you WANT THAT
