I don't think that a police officer is allowed to work on the Sabbath. Public service is NOT mentioned in the 4th commandment. Doctors and nurses, yes, they can do some work on the Sabbath, but mostly when there is an emergency or something like this. With the firefighrers is the same. This is my opinion on that matter.
