The disrespect of mentioning The Iberian Peninsula has Spain .
ОтветитьThe "Theme from Pulp Fiction" is called Misirlou, meaning "Egyptian" in Turkish and yes, it is in the Hejaz Maqam (or Hicaz Makâmı in Turkish).
ОтветитьDo the maqams have specific root pitches, or can the pattern have any “tonic”?
Ответитьcfadgc
ОтветитьProbably can't flip the oud upside down to make it left handed and a left handed oud likely does not exist.
ОтветитьHi Brandon, I was wondering if you considered doing an Introducing episode about lavta? That would be so interesting!
ОтветитьHope you can post videos where you play the oud again!
Ответить*pulp fiction theme originally written by the great Markos Vamvakaris the main "bridge" that connected the music of the minor asia of greeks and brang it to Greece as it afterwards has been named as "rebetiko" by his instrument, bouzouki.
"Oud" means stick. So not just "wood", but more like "stick of wood"
ОтветитьOud is an instrument from Babylon period Mr brandon
ОтветитьThis is such an awesome video!! Thank you. I have cousins in NYC who make and play Ouds. Simone and Najib Shaheen!! Brilliant masters of their craft. I look forward to buying and learning to play!!
ОтветитьSounds like Juan Martin... Andalucian Suites...
Ответитьthere is also a fantastic oudl players of Lebanon Marcel Khalife and Charbel Rouhana

That Turkish tune is also an Arabic song called Banat Eskandaria. Also a disco group of the 70s called Boney used that melody for a popular song called Rasputin.
ОтветитьHey Brandon! I recommend you to listen Yurdal Tokcan (turkish oud player) greetings from Türkiye❤
ОтветитьI’m Arabic and I’ve never heard an Arabic playing this instrument as well as this guy, or explain the instrument so well, learning about something that existed and it’s potential is truly the art in the original invention. It’s so fascinating watching this that I literally want to play the guitar and I did once and I was surprisingly good, i poured my soul into it, will never happen again haha and too bad I didn’t record it
ОтветитьI bought a lute recently, bot come one, I can't buy an Oud now. Maybe one day I promise haha
ОтветитьWhat a wonderful video.. As a new subscriber, I do hope that you continued down the path of learning the oud. It is such a wonderful instrument. For reference, the band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard has an interesting exploration into microtones on their album "Flying Microtonal Banana." It is a western band exploring microtones and you may find it interesting
ОтветитьTry out a Greek Bouzuki.
ОтветитьTHANKS ,, AWSOME
ОтветитьSuch a remarkable instrument, and you play it so well! 👍👍❤❤
ОтветитьHe totally isn't a millenia old vampire whp definitely didn't live in early arabic and europian worlds
ОтветитьAs a hypothetical, what would happen if someone made an oud by carving the bowl out of a single, large piece of wood instead of bending and gluing smaller strips? How would that affect the sound it produces?
ОтветитьThis theme is actually a cover of an old rebetiko song and it's utilizing the two variations hijaz and hijaskiar
ОтветитьThe oud is an Arabic instrument, but many of the music made with the oud belong to the Turks. For example, this video is used in "Üsküdara Gider İken"Belongs to Turks
Ответитьal oud means the wood and not from wood
Nice video
2 years (I guess) after seeing this video for the first time, I'm having my first Oud lessons. Tough and amazing instrument!
ОтветитьMashallah
ОтветитьAseel Hameem In A Nutshell
ОтветитьThe oud has nostalgic feelings while the guitar has more excitement feelings.
ОтветитьHi dear Brandon, please show us more videos of the oud. Thank you
ОтветитьIts no coincidence that Dick Dales version of Misirlou (Pulp Fiction song) sounds familiar to someone playing an oud. Dick Dale himself could play the oud and had Lebanese heritage with his Uncle being one of his music teachers with a heavy middle eastern musical influence.
ОтветитьHow do you pick an Oud?
ОтветитьYou are right about the Pulp Fiction theme. By the way, it is a rearrangement of a greek song named Misirlou.
ОтветитьThis is HARAM
ОтветитьThe best oud call “السنباطي " he top top player ever
Ответить❤
Ответитьthat was very educational, I bought an oud at an auction, I have learned a lot trying to get it functional and in good working order...Thanks!
ОтветитьI only heard this instrument today, but the depth of tone is absolutely beautiful! I am hooked! Thanks for the Intro.
ОтветитьIt’s a 12 string
ОтветитьOne of my favorite instruments. When you think Middle and Near Eastern music, this is the sound you think of, in the same way the sitar is the sound of India, the guitar is the sound of Spain, the pipa is the sound of China, and the shamisen is the sound of Japan. I own entire albums of just oud music.
ОтветитьWhat is the tune played at the start called?
Ответитьplease try rubab as well...its a central asian/persian instrument
ОтветитьMr. Acker, First of all, this video featuring the oud is fantastic. Question: have you studied the different temperaments that one hears in Middle Eastern/North African music and which must have been in use during during the era when the oud was brought into Europe?
ОтветитьThe Arabic Oud Should Included On The Drill Rap Beat
Ответитьfun fact: in 192 countries, it's illegal to play any other scale than the harmonic minor scale on a oud
ОтветитьI love these instruments.
