Swiss Music Night 2023: Maurice Steger plays the «Fantasia folcloristica» by Fabian Müller

The «Fantasia folcloristica» for recorder & strings (originally string orchestra) is written for and dedicated to Maurice Steger and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and is based on four old Swiss Folk dance-melodies. Their origins are the Italian and Romansh-speaking regions. The first part is based on a Rondo from 1804, followed by a traditional Mazurka (Mazurka di Stabio) from Ticino. The third theme is a straight-measure dance from Engadin. This dance leads finally into a virtuoso Polka (La maratona) from the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and to a fast and brilliant finale.
