Man, I know it’s just a sitcom but Kurtwood Smith is a world class actor.
ОтветитьMost men from Red's generation weren't expected to show emotions. Maybe it was the horrors they experienced serving in the wars or harsh memories of growing up during the Great Depression. But Red was always a loving father even if he hardly ever said "I love you." Kitty was expected to be the more sensitive one to her children.
However, giving Eric the pocket knife is symbolic because it's Red telling Eric he's proud of the young man he's grown up to be. It's more touching because a lot of fathers could give their sons things they treasured (like a pocket knife, a watch or a Zippp lighter) more than saying "I love you." And the way Red says it in passing was the only way he could say it.
When he says, "You heard me," Eric knew what his father was saying.
this is why you dont use the l word often, it means a lot when you say it
Ответить“God-less commies”, Red really is the best. 😂
Ответить“You heard me”. How his voice cracked. It was deep
ОтветитьRed actually said the L word to Eric…and he wasn’t drugged this time! 😄
ОтветитьI full on admit I cried when I first saw this.
ОтветитьUgh Kurt wood was really sad during this scene you can feel their emotions One of the best scenes in the show
ОтветитьSuch a small detail, but so meaningful: Red makes sure to look Eric in the eyes when he tells him, and immediately afterward turns away for a moment, perhaps somewhat bashfully so, because such vulnerability is foreign to him. And yet he comes right back to meet Eric's gaze, to reassure him that those words were not only true, but important to him for his son to hear.
ОтветитьRed: Tells his son he loves him.
Also Red: Let's his son smuggle a knife into Africa knowing full well Airport Security would put their foot in Eric's ass.
Red is such a great dad. He may struggle with showing his emotions. But he truly loves his boy. And everything he did in his life was for Eric and Kitty. And him telling Eric his true feelings was really beautiful. No need for the over dramatic crying. Kurtwood Smith delivers his lines without breaking character but showing a completely diffrent side of the character at the same time. Was actually a brilliant written scene. And acted perfectly as well.
ОтветитьI just cried
Ответитьim not crying you are crying!
ОтветитьGotta love Red, despite his clear toxic masculinity.
Ответитьthis should of been the final episode.
ОтветитьThat “you heard me” was everything. Sometimes less is more
ОтветитьThis mad me cry!
ОтветитьThis reminds of when i graduated basic training....context i was a bad teenager but i hadn't seen my dad in a few months and they way he hugged me lwt me know he was proud of me
ОтветитьI was hoping red would tell Eric he'd put his foot up his ass if he lost his knife 🤣😂
ОтветитьDamm I have something in my eye again 😢
Ответить"Boy, you know I love you, but dammit if you don't piss me off sometimes."
I miss my dad.
Fun fact: Topher left to star in Spider-Man 3
ОтветитьThis episode always gets me, Kurtwood was genuinely sad that Topher was leaving and he used those emotions so well to compliment the softer tone for red in this scene...
ОтветитьThat was great advice, it’s a special gift lol
ОтветитьRed really personifies tough love. He may unleash hell on Eric, but he does love him in the end
Ответить🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
ОтветитьThis reminds me of the tearful goodbye I had with my dad when I enlisted at 18.
ОтветитьI love this. They are close irl so I think that this was also them not really acting
Ответитьhyde leaving the house to move into his dads house was more emotional
ОтветитьRed is Good Dad to Eric
Ответитьand it went downhill from there... haaa one of the best episode out there.. aside from the episode "Well If it isn't casanova... the man who seduced himself" hahahahaha
Ответить😊
ОтветитьMust have had a cavity again
ОтветитьEric than blessed the rains down in Africa.
ОтветитьLol this reminds me of my father for sure. He was always a hardass
ОтветитьI will never have this moment with my Trump supporting shithead father. Red was smarter than my father, and my dad was a nurse and carpenter
ОтветитьEric was the heart of this show and it was really sad when he left.
ОтветитьMan, as a kid I thought Hyde was the coolest but as an adult Red is way cooler
ОтветитьHe was druuuuuuuuuuuged
ОтветитьI’m 21 and my dad is 60 lived a hard life my mom and dad are pretty well off but this is how he treated me I wouldn’t change it for the world he was always there but didn’t treat me like a pussy and was hard on me and the lessons he taught me are gonna be very valuable for my future children
ОтветитьA father's love for his son isn't always shown or even voiced its just understood. my old man is an old crusty salty immigrant and never said it but I always knew that through all the yelling and ass whoopings I received throughout the years of my childhood I always knew he loved me and my brother deeply. It wasn't until I graduated the police academy did I hear him say it and say in way to me that was more soft and horse than his regular voice did I truly understand how much he cares. I hope when I have a son that I can be half the man my father is.
ОтветитьEric leaving is like Michael leaving the office just wasn't the same.
ОтветитьStill visiting this once a month or two.
ОтветитьThis was the true ship right here! Neither truly got one another but loved each other, knowing it was goodbye for a while!
ОтветитьBest moment in the entire show
Ответитьwell, i guess he must've been wasted during this scene
ОтветитьWhen Topher left, the show just went down hill and it also didn't help that Ashton also left aswell early during season 8. I felt like the producers and the cast wanted to keep this show going believing that it was good enough with its cast and getting new cast memebers to "replace" Topher and Ashton to make the show refreshing but it wasn't going work. Whether you hate to admit this but the show mostly center around Eric. Like where does most of the episodes take place, at Erics home. Who parents get more screen time and personally involed with the cast, Erics parents. So if you take away Eric then you take away glue that hold the characters together. I only wish that, the show they could've work it out with Topher and Ashton to do a whole season 8 and have a proper final season.
ОтветитьAll of the major TV dads of the last 30 years were bad examples (minus Hank Hill). Red Forman was a good man and he cared about his family.
He was tough because life was tough, that's how parents used to raise their children.
The show should have ended here.
