Phir Chhidi Baat Phoolon Ki

Shakila Bano Bhopali, the first female Qawwal and a Hindi film actress, visited Hyderabad for a program. She planned to meet her friends, poet Makhdoom Mohiuddin and Shahid Siddiqui (a poet from Agra), for the night. The condition of this get-together was that everyone would talk in verse and follow Radeef-Qafiya’s rules of the Ghazal form. This gathering inspired Makhdoom Mohiuddin to write the beautiful ghazal “Phir Chhidi Raat Baat Phoolon Ki,” later used in the film Bazaar.
