To be fair, for the sack of a fair comparison not disagreement, are we talking about an fxr built to the same quality’s the new bike? Say suspension motor and brakes? Or a bone stock? Because bone stock it’s not comparison. But I’d be interested to ride and FXR with legends or Ohlins shocks, a well built street motor (not a 124” over kill motor) maybe 95-110” with mild cam and little head work. 6 piston front and rear brake and compare that to a bone stock new bike. Done right the $$ would come out close to the same give or take a little. Again not disagreeing anything said. The new bikes are sick. But I’d be interested to ride a well built fxr and a brand new fxlr back to back. It would probably be a matter of preference at that point.

The FXR has 80,000 PLUS miles and has proven itself til this day. That Caca lowerider s has only 1 thing and 1 thing along on the FXR its new. Thats all. I doubt that piece of Caca will last as long as the BEST motorcycle Harley Davidson ever made like the FXR!.

Hey man, I wanted to get your advice on a purchase I'm looking to make. I watch your channel all the time and see the multitude of bikes you ride so I figure your opinion is as good if not better than they next guys. Anyway, grew up on dirtbikes, but lloking to get into harleys. Don't have a ton of money to spend so brand new is prob not an option, but I'm stuck between and FXR or and older DYNA, What would you lean towards. I'm tall btw, 6ft +. I love the way the dyna looks but the FXR sounds soooo nasty, I can't make up my mind. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Keep the awesome content rolling bro!!!

I thought it was lighter, stiffer, had 3 point mounting, and was hand-built. How can a Softail be an FXR?

Just going to throw this out there. Anyone have any input on Analog Vs. Digital bikes?
Basically simple carbureted, mechanical gauges and no ABS vs FI, ABS, digital.
I’ve owned and rode both. IMO I prefer a modern bike for comfort but the older bikes still have a lot of soul.

Blah Balh Balh, all these fucking bikes are the same! I own 3 FXRs and there is not competition. FXR still best bike by buell I can only imagine if Erick buell was still on their team. Probably there ll be selling more bikes and not tshirts.

The LRS is very impressive. I like the way it handles and I love the brakes, but I'm coming from a sportster.

I got a 83 FXR in my shop right now. I belongs to my barber. It has a ton of issues mostly from bad maintenance and sitting outside for 30 years. Not a fan they look like big sportsters but they got a kick ass frame. I think it is called a superglide II. Ever bike I owned had drum brakes until I got the 02 FLSTC. I almost dumped it first time I hit the brakes. I sold both my twin cams and pick up a 98 FLSTF. It and my 72 FLH will do it for me at my age.

Everything on an FXR but the frame is grossly obsolete and while their reliability is exemplary (I've over 100K on my '88 with only one ring job and I wasn't kind to that bike) a 1980s drivetrain is still a 1980s drivetrain and even more underpowered (by anything but HD standards) than later engines. Rough tuff bikers have a lot in common with giddy teenage girls when it comes to fads so many fail to focus on the drivetrain. Since the FXR frame is what matters and they fit every big twin engine with minimal work the way to go is shitcan everything but the frame and start fresh. IRL which engine you use doesn't matter so long as it's based on good cases (no stock Evo cases were good for high HP builds but cases are cheap) so most of the debate is just prattle. Shade Tree Surgeon would probably be happier if he stripped his FXR instead of band-aiding it and threw in a built Twin Cam. It's easy to do and cheaper than building an Evo or buying a crate motor. Since FXRs need a heavy duty inner primary cover and only Solenberg (IF they actually get them into production, I'm on the list for two and have two original Delkrons on my FXRs) make those the path of least hassle is a Twinkie or M8 swap with Twinkies being common and cheap. All the parts on older FXRs from the tapered shaft trans, shite Hitachi starter, and feeble clutch to the weak cases (bearing race migration sold MANY Delkron, STD and S&S cases since the early days) aren't worth carrying forward to a rebuilt bike. If you want an Evo loot the box and primary off a later splined shaft bagger and if you want to ditch that stupid oil bag run a late bagger box and mod the crossmember the same way you would for a Twinkie conversion which was the best thing I ever did to mine.

Gotta love the power in the 114. I'll stick with my '16 Heritage with the103 for the price though.

the BRAKES on the SOFTAIL Lowrider S are probably an ANTI-LOCK Brake system = thus the "FEEL"
the real reason the old FXR is superior is the EVO engine vs the ??? Whatever ENGINE H-D put in the new SOFTAIL

I happen to own both a 2016 lowrider s and a big inch (124 ultima) Evo softail.
I have about 12k miles on each, the fxdls has a the typical club style upgrades.

The fxdls has no bad habits, is well refined, and even seems edgy - That is until you jump on the Ultima 124!

Very edgy, insane power, an entirely different world.

After years of trading bikes, these are my two keeper dreambikes and I love them both.

I bought the blue 2004 victory bagger from burtz baracuta that you showed on your channel, The one that had a dead battery when you went to test drive it. I'm driving down from Michigan Wednesday to pick it up, maybe I will see you there.

The FXR is my favorite motorcycle by far, but I gotta admit, if I were going to buy something new? I'd be the Indian Sport Chief OR, OR, I'd wait until 2025 and get a Buell Super Cruiser which is definitely the FXR spiritual successor.
