I come from the commercial art field so I find stuff like this really difficult. It sounds pretentious. All that is important is "Is it appealing?" "Does it read?". So I am not sure how to switch my thinking for my personal work. I wish I could just say "I want people to buy my shit so I don't have to have a real job".

I like the simplicity - because an Artist Statement is in many ways our own description... if you see art critics they bring some stuff so complicated across BUT at the end we want to reach peoples heart and mind :) a clear bold and simple way of describing our passion is recommended

As a photographer, I go to art shows. Over the years I have read countless artists statements. I laugh at most of them. So much self praise in those statements when they could just write a few paragraphs about their current show. That would make me happy! That would be enough.
