This is indeed the difference between drawing and painting.

My painting instructor told us not to think of the things we paint as the objects they are; may it be animals, people, or scenery. Think of them as abstract combinations of shapes, textures, and colors.

It was really logical and helpful for beginners until you put on that abnormal highlight. Maybe you were just trying to stylize it, then you should address that because that's too overboard.

I think this is a good tutorial but not for ppl that does eyes in a cartoony way, He didn't have to compare the cartoon eyes to a more realistic kind of eyes, that just makes a beginner confused

If I learned this when I was younger I probably would have enjoyed art

-don’t draw eyes
Step 2:
-draw a blindfold or long ass hair that covers the eyes
Step 3:
-enjoy

I don't know... how should I recreate that on my own painting? What if light, position, colors are different? There you were just copying an already existing painting, but what if I'm trying to make my own painting with completely different image?

NO!!! The world is made with lines!!! Period! Shadows are for weak artists who cannot make convincing shapes! jk

something that taught me about eyes better was drawing cats.
I think their faces are very balanced in terms of geometry and proportion, if thats a good way to describe lol.

and supposedly cats faces resemble human faces a little, geometrically at least.

If you don’t use white but a yellowish color, you paint the eyes of someone with severe liver problems and other heavy problems with inner organs.
