I did the engine flush worked beautifully. My oil is super clean now. Wish I had done it before

I add a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil to older car engines 100 miles before draining the oil for a change... older dirty oil seems to flow out the pan much more efficiently and completely

There are opposite opinions and in most cases flushing just works well. On a very old crap may not.

It shouldn't have to be routine, but if oil consumption or compression is an issue, then a flush (as a low-cost option) may be warranted.

Drop your oil pan after dumping your oil and check for debris (i.e., metal flakes, carbon deposits, etc.). Using fresh oil, fresh filters and checking for debris between removing the old filter and flush filter is also important. As Eric noted, use high-quality oil afterwards to keep the engine clean. Liqui Moly makes an oil with dyes that are specially formulated to help identify any leaks.

Lastly, the rationale that keeping sludge in the engine because it prevents leaks seems backwards to me. Seals should prevent leaks not spudge. If seals have failed or are failing then they should be replaced. Yes, it cost money and time, but I'd rather do it upfront than to risk the sludge giving way on a long road trip and being stranded.

This is a problem for people who can't just pull their engines or replace engines on a dime. They're not mechanics. But if YOU got an engine sitting there, can't you just throw a bucket of carb cleaner in the engine and let it sit, then wash out before reassembly? Maybe it's obvious, but it seemed like an omission to me. If i had a whole engine to reassemble, i wouldn't tolerate the crud

Quick question, so flushing, your oil all at once after years of usage bad idea. But what about flushing it every other or every 3rd oil change from the beginning of the engines life? I have a friend that does this. I’m wondering if he has the right idea.

Thanks a lot 😊 for this lovely video.
But my friend , you should know this nice trick below in order to get rid of engine sludge .
1. Turn on the engine and let it run for 15 min .
2 . spray full can of WD 40 inside the engine ( mixed with engine oil ) .
3 . Drive the vehicle for 1 or 2 hours on the highway .
4 . Drin the old oil .
5 . Add new oil and drive the vehicle for 20 min .
5. Drin the oil again .
6 . Put a new oil filter with new oil .
And that's it .

These concerns are valid, but some of us learn from wise people like yourself so we can avoid the mines. Thank you for your knowledge.

I don't have sludge, just the brown varnish all over. That stuff if dissolved or attached to the chemical shouldn't clog anything, I would think. Not sure which chemical to use though.

I successfully "de-sludged" a 2006 GM engine using repeated kerosene flushes (and dropped oil consumption from 1.5 ltrs per 1,000 km to 0.5 ltrs per 1,000). YES there are 'risks' (so the video isn't necessarily invalid), but I was faced with $7-8k for a complete engine rebuild as it was, "OR". I chose the "OR" (flushes), and it worked. If I'd blown up the engine (yes, I guess there was that RISK) I was only a couple of $$ and a little bit of time and effort above and beyond the rebuild anyway. I'm using around 10% less fuel on a set journey as an added bonus. I guess it boils down to individual risk management - does the benefit of an engine flush outweigh the 'risk' you'll break a running (albeit degraded) engine?

Just pour kerosene into the engine let soak a few days and drain out the bottom. Then do it again. The third time use marvel mystery oil. Tun run at ideal for an half hour. Change the oil. YOu will be amazed as to how the oil becomes soup. Then regular oil again for some time. Drain again and your engine is super clean fella. Change oil at 500 miles. Then 1000 miles and the engine is super clean. Never had a problem with this method other than takes a while. The down side, TIME.

For older neglected petrol motors, I use Diesel oils.
I find the higher detergent level gradually nibbles away at sludge, at a rate that the motor screens can keep up with.
As an apprentice we were warned that diesel oil in a petrol engine will cause the seals to leak. At the time it was probably true as a lot of our cars were British, and they leaked by design.
Avoid the issue all together by simply changing oils regularly !?!?!
In the good old days CNG was big here and I owned an Aussie GM cast iron straight six that ran on this stuff.
It was recommended that you run a special CNG oil. Turned out it was simply a high detergent oil, so probably diesel oil with a different label.
After several years I had to renew the cam fibre gear. When I got inside the motor it was so clean that you could have eaten out of the timing cover.

My 2010 SX4 has 120 000 mi, and, with regular oil changes (every 3000-4000 mi. using synthetic oil), it DOES NOT burn a single drop of oil and it stays clean. Simple. Preventive regular flush is indeed a good way to maintain the engine. Prevention is key.

I have a question. What if I fill a gasoline engine with a diesel to the brim, remove the spark plugs, and also fill the combustion chambers also to the top? And leave it to sit for a next 24 hours.
Would that do damage to the engine gaskets and seals, and would that remove the carbon buildup on the surface of the pistons?

Ответить
@garrettmillard525

Not really sure how dumping a bunch of kerosene, a potent solvent, is comparable to flushes like Liqui Moly which uses an extremely small amount of a potent solvent along with additives that enhance the ability of liberated carbon to be suspended in the oil. The idea is to slowly liberate carbon in very small amounts and then change the oil. Dumping a bunch of solvent in will of course cause huge chunks to break off and cause issues, or damage seals.
