Not knowing all the backstory makes you look back on things with a new light. In Nier/Replicant for example the women flirt with Nier a few times and he always immediately shoots them down.

I wondered if he was gay or what but it turns out that there’s subplot in one of the novellas that Nier couldn’t afford Yonahs medicine so he sold his body to a perv in Seafront. He apparently had to do this for awhile while he grew enough to fight for money instead then ended up killing the perv. That kind of trauma would explain why he was so uninterested in any kind of physical contact.

In any other scenario, I would feel bad for the guy who has a girl force herself on him when he doesn't want to. But Its kinda hard to feel bad for the guy who also gets turned on by a pile of dead amputees.
