So relevant today April 2025. No faith or confidence in the “rulers”. Taking time on deciding, asking for evidence while people are dying, being wiped out in Gaza and Ukrainian. Puppets and puppet masters pulling the strings.
ОтветитьA trade dispute being manipulated to open the way to fascism - seems far fetched to me. 😂😮😢
ОтветитьPeople complain that these senate scenes are boring but theyre supposed to be, it’s supposed to be politicians talking and talking but not accomplishing anything. If you look at the next two movies, the senate is shown only during crucial scenes where the emperor gains more power. Once in ep 2 where palpatine gets emergency powers and once in revenge of the sith when he actually forms the empire. If the phantom menace showed the senate being competent, palpatine wouldve never rose to power
Ответитьi do not remember this scene or its gravitas, palpy's living up to his sith name in spades
ОтветитьThe parallels to our own situation today is...eriee
ОтветитьA perfect example of false dichotomy.
BTW "bureaucrats" (whom Palpatine actually controls) is another term for " the deep State ". Is anyone else connecting the dots here ?
Great acting by Terrence Stamp, when Amidala announced the vote of no confidence
ОтветитьHe never wanted or cared about the signature for the treaty. He just wanted to create a chaotic situation for the queen that would put her in a position to choose a vote of no confidence.
ОтветитьAs a child...this scene captivates me as much as other fight scenes.
I was like....aren't these representatives meant to govern and judge for the fcking PEOPLE? There was a fcking invasion on a planet and the hell are they doing nothing to help? 😂
This is true of real world politics.
People are dying. War crimes are commited. Yet, the U.N bureacracy is slow as hell and indecisive except for when the US want it.
Committee after commitee...meeting after meeting
When I was a child, I thought like
"Man...this senator is a saint. At least he is a gem in this corrupt senate, doing what little he can for his home. He does deserve the Chancellorship"....Man....Sheev gaslighted me
Amidala looks exactly like padme
ОтветитьI love Ian as Sidious and the Emperor as we all do, but man his light Shakespearean acting shines here as he manipulates and then when he introduces Amidala.
It’s a nice contrast to the Palpatine we see for most of the rest of the series, even in Episode II
It's a shame that Star Wars doesn't have the guts to go back to politics again (aside from Andor and Bad Batch). It's very surface level stuff, but all in all, it is the most intriguing and entertaining part of the franchise. I either want more live action Imperial/Clone Wars politics/Senate stuff
ОтветитьHahaha. In Palpatine's head he was saying "DO IT!" as the queen makes a motion for a vote of no confidence.
ОтветитьAlso, Terence Stamp is somewhat wasted in the PT
ОтветитьWhat's with Padme's accent here?
ОтветитьIs this Natalie Portman, or did they just use Kira Knightly in all of these scenes to avoid spoiling it?
ОтветитьBruh! Why did I never focus on these parts? The politics is awesome. For example the Presiding Officer of the Galactic Senate for some reason is the Supreme-Chancellor!
Ответитьthis senate scene is sick. best looking legislative assembly ever in cinema.
ОтветитьET is there
ОтветитьI can’t help but feel bad for Chancellor Valorum. He genuinely wanted to help the Naboo out, but the his hands were tied by the Bureaucrats.
ОтветитьAre people are dieing alex lightning ❤
ОтветитьTrump ❤
ОтветитьThis is what we love SW for
ОтветитьI DO ALL
ОтветитьI seen E.T’s species on the last cut lol 😊
ОтветитьThe senate meeting is honestly one of my favorite moments from The Phantom Menace because it shows how businesses and governments are able to function throughout the galaxy and how the senate is pretty much like today’s Supreme Court where people come together to freely express their opinions and concerns to the higher ranking officials
Ответитьwhen did those cows grow three eyes and start talking? should stfu and mind their business, they weren't there
ОтветитьGeneral Zod has conquered the planet by force yet got ousted in a coup. Poetic justice.
ОтветитьWait is this guy just trump
ОтветитьPoor General Zod
ОтветитьWow General Zod
ОтветитьI love how the Trade Federation (which is a corporation) has a seat in the Senate.
Ответитьmy mind was blown as a kid when I found chancellor valorum and general zod were played by the same actor.
ОтветитьYou see republic is being destroyed and you see beyond his lies but you cant do anything to help...This is such a bad feeling
ОтветитьPeople were way too stupid for this movie
ОтветитьIan McDiarmid was truly the right casting choice for Palpatine. So maniacally evil when he has the Sith robes on, and yet comes off as a really decent guy when he has the politician facade up, enough to lull even the audience into a false sense of security whenever he's on screen.
ОтветитьWhy does palps explain that they will elect a new Chancellor, what does he think she was trying to do with a vote of no confidence
ОтветитьIt occurred to me that Palpatine's original plan was to obtain a Trade Federation monopoly, by which he could rule the galaxy behind the scenes, even controlling Valorum, and maybe succeeding him in a later election or following the engineered separatist crisis. Had Amidala signed the treaty, his plan would have worked.
Given that he likes to play the long game and make the smart move, wouldn't it have been better had he persuaded Amidala to sign the treaty without even ordering an invasion, even offering all kinds of deals to sweeten the pot?
Was she dubbed for this movie? She sounds so off
