Technically a series and not a movie, The Mentalist. I can't Imagine seeing a top list without at least an honorable mention.

I don’t think “Vertigo” is half as good as “Rear Window” or “To Catch a Thief”! “Dial M for Murder” is better too. Something about “Vertigo” is really too depressing to enjoy. I think the leading lady was just too brooding and depressing to make it watchable. Grace Kelly knew how to make things entertaining.
True that “Seven” is an excellent movie but it’s too gross and dark to watch more than once. You’ll need months of therapy afterwards as well. Give me a mystery that doesn’t make me want to drink arsenic the whole way through it any day. There’s so many to choose from.
“Heat” is a great choice. It contains some of the most excellent acting ever made.
“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is much better in its Swedish version, a lot of people who’ve watched both will tell you so as well.
“LA Confidential” another wonderful choice and Kim Basinger did earn her Oscar because she was in effect portraying several women at once. Plus she’s just so mesmerizing to watch that she makes you want to see what she is going to do next.
“The Maltese Falcon” has to be on anyone’s list who knows what they are talking about.
“Death on the Nile” is one of my favorites. I think the 1970’s version is good but the new one does have beautiful cinematography. Some people will say “Orient Express” is better. It’s a toss up if you ask me.
If you haven’t seen either of the “Knives Out” movies then you should. The second one is probably my favorite but both are awesome.
“Sherlock Holmes, Game of Shadows” is one of the best of all time with an incredible performance by Robert Downey, Jr. and the rest of the cast were also great.
The entire first season of BBC’s “Sherlock Holmes” with Benedict Cumberbatch is awesome!
I’ve seen too many movies that could make the top ten list. The best ones leave you feeling satisfied. Kind of like the other bests of everything do!!! 😂

'The Thin Man' should make any all time list. It spawned 5 sequels as well as had the most charming and charismatic detective in any of the detective movie genre.

You totally mixed up the genres here in this list. Your top of the list are all thrillers, not detective movies. Same goes for other ones - the Heat is criminal drama, Prisoners is psychological thriller ... So dislike for the misleading content

Bogarts Maltese Falcon is missing. So is the Agatha Christie masterpiece Murder in Orient Express starring Finny & Widmark. & Dial M for Murder starring Grace Kelly .Heat cant be called a detective movie. Seven is a good movie but not worthy of No1 slot . With all due respect my personal choice would be 1) Murder in Orient Express 2) Dial M for Murder 3) Chinatown 4) Vertigo 5) Maltese Falcon 6) Silence of the Lamb 7) Wait until dark 8) Day of the Jackal 9) The Girl with the dragon tatoo 10) Rear Window

The Heat (which is a great movie, one of my favourites of all time) is not really a detective movie. Big sleep, Harper or sth of that kind should have made it instead I think.

Sorry, I've loved most of your "Top 10" videos but although this one includes a few worthy entries, it falls short. "Of all time" is in the title and you mention film noir several times, but you then proceed to ignore the many great movies of the film noir era. Any list of the all-time best detective movies that fails to include classics like The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon, to name just two, is sadly lacking.

Once again, you collect a list of "best of all time" in which you only consider newer movies. How on earth can you make this list without including movies from the '30s to the '50s.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (dubbed) was one of the best movies I’ve seen. But detective?
I watched Daniel Craig’s version too. But it lacked the raw intensity.

Heat, while a great action film, isn’t really a detective movie. I don’t think Fargo really qualifies either. I think Hitchcock’s Rear Window is better than Vertigo but I really like both. You left out the classics like Maltese Falcon, Murder on the Orient Express, The Thin Man etc. Then there’s French Connection. Just my thoughts.

The problem is, how much actual detecting (private or police) occurs in the movie vs action, spying, crime, violence, love interest etc. Or just being a cop movie with no particular detecting going on.

WELL!!!! ....... Hummm??? I had never thought of Best Detective movies before. Since one mainly watches for the action, actors and actresses, or the crimes rather than the detecting. Some in your list I have never heard of but most I have seen. A few I dont recall too well. I disagree with "Heat". I did not think that was a very good movie at all. Acting by both was terrible. One film you may consider is "Zodiac" (I think is the title)..... (2007).
