Just got my Pocket the other day, and my only complaint is that it doesn't have the GBA size screen. It doesn't make sense. You could have the larger GBA screen and it wouldn't affect the size of the GameBoy games' screen. Seems like a no-brainer. Must have been a cost thing. Very disappointing.

Also, OLED would have been nice.

I like the fpga but its too barebones for me. If they make a more encompassing device...

Since most Game Boy systems weren't widescreen, it was the correct decision to go with this display screen size, instead of using GBA's widescreen. And even with your absurd complaint about black borders on the screen while playing GBA games, everyone can easily see how good this display is, in terms of not having any backlight bleeding at all, through those black borders. So they truly look very dark and thus, are no real issue at all. But this way, the display can be in a proper formfactor, that doesn't look off, inside of this Gameboy Pocket/Color style shape. The Analogue Pocket is good exactly as is.

Why not just play the original Hardware tho

I received mine today and I must say that I'm somewhat disappointed by the build quality. Sharp and uneven edges and messy cutouts for the jacks and speaker holes. ANY phone of the major companies plays in another league, even the entry options.

Amazing thing none the less, bit this isn't 'premium' at all

After months of playing the Analogue Pocket, I love it! However, I would love a mod to place some SNES style buttons in place of the stock light-weighted black ones. They simply dont have the original sturdy feel the classic Gameboy had and noticeably different.

It's not obvious in the video that you can't load rom on the sdcard

Would love this to play my games and roms of the rare games but he'll $200?? I'll just jail break a switch and emulate or just emulate with my phone/laptop hell mod an actual gameboy?? Would probably still be cheaper

the donkey kong country shown in review is the 8bit nes hack version, not the 16bit snes version...

Did the Gameboy Micro have the same aspect ratio as the og GBA?

Hacked 2ds xl > analogue pocket

no comment on the terible cartridge slot? I saw in other rewievs that the cartridges don't seem to sit secure in their socket and are easily moved away from the contacts especially whith the shoulder buttons right next to the cartridge. I see this as a major flaw and a valid reason to not buy their product.

I wonder if the Analogue Pocket can reproduce the sprite glitch in Donkey Kong Land occurring only on the Game Boy Color.

Do any of these handheld consoles interface with official hardware for something like pokemon trading?

This thing looks so good. I wish you could buy an Emulator based handheld with this quality. I don't actually collect physical games, so this would be a pointless for me. Maybe you can use those SD based carts, but not sure if it works.

Good stuff as always, MVG. I used to think a modded New 3DS to play these games was good enough, but this little bugger makes a compelling argument, especially with game capture using the dock.

I don't get it. The gba has the biggest library and is arguably the most popular system represented in the device and yet the device seems to be designed primarily with the gameboy in mind. The device looks really sleek and cool, but where are the shoulder buttons? Does it really have shoulder buttons? Your hands looked miserable playing gba games.

I really do hope that Analogue is watching your review & does indeed fix the audio a bit. I am a stickler for accuracy so this would please me greatly. It's why I spend the extra money to buy FPGA devices after all & thus I expect a hardware accurate experience.

See, this is THE one thing that bothers me about Analogue's audio implementations in their cores, in that they always seem to take some slight liberties with it based on the personal preference of the developer.

While personal preference is all well & good, when you're making a product that's being sold to thousands of users, the focus should be on hardware accuracy, not one single person's personal preference. When it's a product being sold, the focus should be on the customer, not on yourself. Just saying.

This is also an evident problem with the NT Mini & NT Mini NOIR's NES core, as there is some extra low pass filtering happening that can not be turned off. The RetroUSB AVS NES core's audio is actually more accurate to real hardware in comparison because of this.

Dang IT!!! THey increased the price of the base units by almost 2 times as much, if not more than I remember. Well I aint buying one now lol. But glad to see it works. :P

I've come around on the price after considering all the work done on it and all of the hardware included. Still can't afford it atm but a beautiful unit.
