Still rockin the i5-2500k since 2011. It’s painful at times but I can still run the games I want to play. Super value, legendary chip

I replaced my i5 2500k a few days ago. It did really well for the 10 years I used it, but in 2022 it is really starting to show its age in modern games because of the lack of hyperthreading.

The 2500K and 2600K were far too good for their time and those who are still running a 2500K or 2600K in their desktop computer will likely keep their 2500K / 2600K for another 5 years minimal at the very least.

It's 2021 and I'm still rocking this CPU with a Z68, 16gb Corsair Vengeance, and a 1060 SSC. I've thought about upgrading to a newer PC build, but figured this one still gets the job done and doesn't cost a dime.
If I do end up building a fresh build, I'm gonna keep this configuration as a side PC because the before has held up way beyond what I thought it would when purchased in 2014. Overall, incredible value for what it's worth.

Paul, I'm finally upgrading from my 2500K this weekend. All parts (excluding a new GPU, my 1060 6GB will have to suffice in the interim) have arrived! I'm going 3700X on B550 and while I hope I get a good 5 years (standard upgrade cycle) I will forever love my 2500K and the long life it gave me, and will give my son (when I get a GPU and can put the 1060 back in the old rig) for a couple more years.

There should be a CPU Hall of Fame and the 2500K should be a first ballot entrant!

Here in 2021, and... it's called the i5-10600K. It was originally $300, but at its current $230 it's a damn good deal, even without the platform longevity. Of course, AMD's stupid decision to launch only the Ryzen 5 5600X at $299 didn't help them there.

The thing about the 2500K was that with Sandybridge the ipc went way up, Intel made a
breakthrough by way of an architectural improvement. I'd say that today's 2500K is the i3 10100F,
since it's like an i7 of the old days at a bargain price. Or you could say that a 6 core, 12 thread processor
makes more sense to keep up with advances, i5 10400 or 10500, or the 10600K for people who overclock.
The prices are not that far off considering inflation.

Nicely put Paul and we all agree "if u don't ur a dick!!" But Intel have lost the plot!! I still own a 2500k but not used for gaming rig, That has a 2700k @ 5ghz in it and still going strong but its time for a upgrade as that overclock has been running for to many years.Guess I will be buying a AMD processor next as Intel cant seem to get it together. Some dick has been pissing the extra $100 for Hyper threading up the wall instead of putting it into getting there shit together. Get ur shit together Intel some people don't like change and now will be forced too. 😡

The 2500k was released in 2012. In 2018, the 2500k became an i3 in performance. In only the next two years, it might become a Pentium if Intel does the predictable move and moves the Pentiums to 4 cores. Then, who knows when it moves to a Celeron. If we survive 2020, it definitely will.

I just replaced my 2500k 10 days ago.
It still works, just doesn't have the kick based on my work load anymore.

I would only consider Intel if they made the dramatic changes you talk about in this video. But they would have to be dramatic. I used to be diehard Intel...but AMD brings better part at a lower price.

Intel gives me the impression now, that they are better and they think we will pay for it. I used to pay for it with the mentality of "It costs more, so it must be better"

I like Paul's outlook.....If the tech is better in quality, lower in price, then buy it. Doesn't matter who makes it.
Intel dropped the ball....they need to do something big to get back in. Honestly, I don't think they will cut their prices....and i will continue to buy the best product at the best value.

Thanks Paul
