This is the first time I see the actual gameplay of thief though I always heard about it and its legacy. As someone who played Arx Fatalis to death it's striking to see such a similarity in the art style, animation and overall gameplay. Does anybody know if they run on the same engine or what does it make to feel so similar?
ОтветитьThe keepers?? As in a thief who finds things for keepers? Finders keepers?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I'm losing my mind!
ОтветитьI lOVE the bonehoard
Ответитьphart
ОтветитьOk so I am not crazy. I know MGS:Ground Zero got bad rep due to being a game demo sold at an outrageous price, but I liked it more than MGS5. There was tension and structure to it that was missing in the full release. I would love to get more contained game like Ground Zero - perhaps something closer to Hitman structure, with couple large, intricate locations.
ОтветитьThose mission briefing screens remind me of toonami
ОтветитьGreat video, you hit all the high points, but I also like how you zoomed in on some of the key particulars.
ОтветитьThief 1&2 need remasters, I would love to finally see Thief 2 Gold
ОтветитьI don't hear sound on the video, is it normal?
ОтветитьSo about that bannerlord video....
ОтветитьLove the Golden boy reference!
ОтветитьI want a remaster of this game, not a "Remake".
(-_-)
The amount of sheer joy me and my brother got from blackjacking people and stealing their purse will be with me to my last day.
NPC: "Oh, excuse me sir, after you."
Guy wearing a hood, holding a blackjack: "Oh no, sir after you."
WHOMP
Graphics aside, the newer games just don't stand up.
ОтветитьIf you are a stealth game fan you need to play thief 2. It still holds up today and is the best stealth game ever made. Nothing comes close to it.
ОтветитьFun fact: The head of Skyrim's Thieves Guild is voiced by Garret's VA
ОтветитьTruly a masterpiece of a game.
ОтветитьMan, this starts of good, and then it just goes in another direction.
The story is interesting, but I don't like the way it plays out and the jarring differences.
I have enough old games to play, so I will skip this one for now.... on to Arx fatalis.
This is the first game I ever beat. My buddies dad was huge into computers in about 96-98 and my two friends who were brothers and myself all sat around the same computer and took turns until we beat Thief. I don't remember much of the individual missions but I remember the different arrowhead types and the last boss lol
Cool story, right?
Ok I'll shut up now
I loved and still love this game. It fueled my imagination like no other game has and likely ever will.
ОтветитьAlso Hammerites scriptures make so much sense to me. Yes, religious a.f. but so logical at the same time!
ОтветитьThe first meet up with Constantine cut-scene still gives me shivers, to this day. The sound design, the imagery full of details and innuendos, the voice acting.. I've seen some sht decades later, but that cut-scene is still unrivaled.
Ответить>immersive sim
Thief ISN'T IMMERSIVE SIM, for fuck's sake, stop repeating this bullshit.
Love the casualness of Garret which was ruined in the fourth game where they turned him into some edgy badass.
Garret was just a thief who became a hero merely because no one else was doing anything and he's basically kicking and screaming through it with witty one-liners. I miss when protagonist was an accidental hero merely because of everyone else's inaction to the antagonist.
Been rewatching a lot of your reviews lately, don't know if this has been answered in the past, but i imagine you have some fairly strong opinions on how bad/unremarkable the Thief "reboot" was back in in 2014? I know you don't generally cover bad games just to trash them but regardless I'd still like to know your thoughts on it, seeing as you love the originals so much.
If it amounts to nothing more than "it was boring" then that's also understandable.
On a CRT this game was super scary back in the days 😬. Dark was really dark and not washed out like with an TN Panel LCD shortly popular later and 16 bit color depth was also no problem. It is one of my favorite games of all time.
ОтветитьI'm 2 years late to the party but this is an incredible review. I've always thought T2 was the better game but I think I might go back and really give this one a proper go.
ОтветитьThis is my Deus Ex: whenever it's mentioned or thought of, I'll immediately wanna install.
ОтветитьName of intro track? great vid !
ОтветитьWhat's your favorite game Mr Mandalore. I'm curious to know
Ответить“Did you think those ancient phrases were mere words, man-fool? LOOK AT ME!”
Fey-Satan just had one of Garret’s eyes torn out...and he’s so damn terrifying that he can successfully order Garret to keep looking at him.
Jimminy Christmas, that’s a well-done sequence.
The Bonehoard level is fantastic. Like a horror Indiana Jones level. When the game first came out I wasn't a fan of the undead missions but later on grew to absolutely love them. The atmosphere in such levels like this and Return to the haunted cathedral is through the roof. I'll take the undead over the robots in Thief 2 any day.
Ответить<3 how the American healthcare system is SO busted, I hear on average one joke about it per video I watch these days. Yet, the majority of people who could actually do something about it are super hawkish... for some reason... Almost as if that small group of powerful people are reaping HUGE benefits for themselves off of the wellbeing (or lack thereof) of the people they are supposed to represent. HMMMMMMM........
ОтветитьAh, this. This game series shaped my definition of what it is to be a true thief. To exploit the shadows to their utmost, to be resourceful and make the most out of limited resources, to be a ghost, the only trace of your presence being the absence of the items you've taken...
Any fool can steal something. But do these things, make them your way, and you're not just a thief...you're a Thief.
And that's how I've played characters in every stealth or fantasy game since. Once darkness settles, I'm Garrett again. No kills if I can help it, totally undetected, nick everything that shines.
.......usually means lots of reloaded quicksaves. x.x;
I had a co-worker who sounded exactly like Benny. He was also a dumbass.
He called off work one time, claiming that a demon possessed this cool new gun he bought, and that he needed to go to the hospital because the demon made his tummy hurt.
Years later, he got fired after threatening to stab a coworker with a comb, and I wish I was making that up.
I like how the cutscenes are, to a degree, technically FMV. When they're moving in shadows, you can tell it's a real person. But when they come into light, it's a drawing again. I love that.
ОтветитьWe need a remaster like Spyro got with Reignited Trilogy for the original Thief Trilogy, Thief 2014 just wasn't up to snuff.
Ответитьso should i apply tfixe if i get the game on gog?
ОтветитьWas not expecting the JasonDeRulo cameo
ОтветитьThe Insanity House was just the beginning!
ОтветитьYou can either make a mediocre game that'll be forgotten...Like the Syndicate 2012 game...or you can be a legend, like System Shock, Thief, Diablo, etc.
ОтветитьThiefpunk I thunk needs to be the word for this level/style of Olde English /medieval crossed with industry.
Ответить
