It would be smart it the central Asian nations resolved their differences and collaborated on a regional high speed rail network.

Thank you for reporting. High speed rail operates for almost 20 years. It is really pleasant ride, much better than plane or bus.

I don't think the talgo trains are categorised as High speed but are semi-high speed as they travel below 200 kmph. Only trains that go above 200 kmph are considered as high speed and even our latest vande Bharat trains have the highest speed of 180 kmph but are semi speed trains.

Beautiful. If the trains are powered by renewable sources then they represent a key asset in fighting climate change.

I believe a bullet train may be good for India as it's so many people that will use it so it will cover the expenses. From what I know the high speed trains are very expensive to make and operate so customer demand should be high.

Should India pursue high speed rail? And if it does, what will it look like. And the question really revolves around affordability. In China, only the high speed rail between Shanghai and Beijing is profitable. Why? Because they are the two wealthiest cities in China. And they have enough people with money to afford the tickets, and there are enough people traveling, to help lower the cost of the tickets. In Japan, if you go by high speed rail from Tokyo to Akita on the far North Western part of Japan, the price of the ticket is three times the cost of flying. Why? Akita doesn't have the population base necessary to keep the ticket price low. So, what should India do? It is in the process of electrifying and up grading their rail system, and the thing for India not to do is copy China and Japan. Indian rail is wider then standerd gage. This can be used to Indias advantage. And India can base the price of the tickets on how fast the train goes, destination and number of stops on the journey. Say that in five years India is making trains that will go 250 kph. But most Indians can't afford the cost of the high speed rail from Mumbai to Hyderabad. But they can afford the price of a ticket for a express train that runs at 120 or 160 kph. So, the key for India is to have a cross country rail system that the people can afford to use. And convenient to use as well.

Why doesn't India have a high-speed train yet? Because Modi is more concerned with aid for other countries than his own and of course that is for political reasons.

Indian trains are slow but on time. Although crowded , smelly , disgusting people and rude staff. No customer services and better to wait until you get to the hotel. Toilets are non existent in India.

The cost is not given. India has no need for bullet trains as it costs too much and Vande Bharat if run at 150 kms avg will do much better at a lower cost. Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train is a show piece costing lakhs of crores and like it's Japanese counterpart will never make a profit.

If the corrupt MVA govt from Maharashtra was thrown or ousted long ago we would by now had the bullet train running from Ahemdabad to Mumbai. 3 valuable years lost because of those corrupt govt. Fadnavis as soon as he became the deputy CM the very first file he moved was the bullet train project. Hope it will be completed by 2024.

You should show, how much money it is making and is it enough to pay atleast interest of the loan taken to build the bullet train.. Even in China high speed trains network running mainly on govt subsidies and bonds which sold to public.. it is already in 600+ Billion dollars debt ... No one knows when it will give returns on the money they invested on high speed rail bonds, sold by regional govts in China.

I mean vande bharat has a speed of 130-150 then why india needs a bullet train? Can't we just produce thousands of vande bharat train and we already making it in india so it will not only boost "make in india" And either we can make the coaches of bullet train in india..so it will not be imported and produce more jobs
