For anyone who loved this movie, I highly suggest the commentary track with Kyle Edward Ball and Jamie McRae. They are both so funny and charming with a lot of passion for their craft.
They do talk about some of the anachronistic props like the Lego brick separator and it becomes a running joke.

Skinamarink plays on a fear you forgot you have.

For any debuting director, filming a movie for 15k to actually scare seasoned horror fans is impressive. Furthermore, creating an analog horror feature without being called pretentious by GG is nothing short of extraordinary. I haven’t watched the film. I won’t watch the film, but solely based on this review, i give many kudos to the director and the team.

This movie works better than a quaalude to fall asleep. It's horrible.

I watched this movie when I was home alone for the week. I wasn't feeling great, and it was around 2 a.m., so I went down stairs and watched this movie. It was not a good idea, lmao. I loved the movie, but it was freaky.

i cant say i particularly loved it as a general movie, but it scared me more than almost any other movie ive watched in the past few years. it was a bit TOO different and experimental for me to understand, but i was genuinely scared for most of it.

i DO love the shots, i love the look of it all, and i get that it's supposed to be like a nightmare, dream logic and all, but i think a less literal dream look would benefit the movie for the wider audience, but i also understand why kyle wouldnt want to do this.

Wild theory: the Skinamarink is the child from Heck… I know, but I think that might be exactly what’s going on in the movie. Think about the very end of Heck

I saw it like most analog horror I was shitting myself on stuff that wouldn't even normally scare me they just linger then when something finally happens I jump.

I disagree. Despite the movie having a pretty neat concept and anxiety-inducing atmosphere, it's still pretentious because for one, it doesn't need to be this long, and making it last 100 minutes while experiencing the same tone over and over is exhausting. We can tell exactly where this story is going within the first ten minutes, but dragging that thin premise out for as long they did became extremely tedious, and I can only watch the same shot of staring into darkness and not really making anything out so many times before the novelty wears off and isn't scary anymore. Secondly, I don't mind when a movie asks a little bit extra from its audience, but this one asks a lot and doesn't really give much back, and frankly, I feel like a lot of the folks praising its glacial pace and lack of focus are putting lipstick on a pig.

That's not to say that I necessarily think they're being dishonest when they say they liked it. I'm just not seeing what they're seeing in it, and while I can admire the movie's moxie for being finished on such a miniscule budget, it's not absolved from criticism by virtue of being the little movie that could.

All in all, good on them for getting their movie made, but man, this was a chore to get through.

If you ever figure out the movie it instantly diffuses the terror of it. The coma theory is not just a theory that's literally what the movie is, it's the kid in a nightmare coma. The beginning with him falling down the stairs would have no relevance if that weren't the case, and many people missed the fact that in the final part of the movie it shows the bottom of the stairs he fell from.
The cartoon playing on the TV tells the story of what's going on. The 'knife' to the eye was him getting brain surgery. People in a coma can have dreams that are affected by what's going around them in real life, and that's what his brain was making of it. He essentially was trapped in a nightmare and at the end was his father's face telling him to go to sleep. Because that's when the kid dies. Skinamarink ultimately is not even a horror movie it just tricks you into thinking it is.

When I watched this with my friend in the dark we really tried to keep the volume all the way up but it was impossible. I clutched the remote the whole movie, lowering the volume whenever I was afraid of a scare. I can’t tell you the last time a movie got me anywhere close to that kind of terror.

This is a movie I will NEVER watch because children in peril genuinely sends me into tears but I can appreciate the artistry through videos like this and wendigoon's review

Oh yeah they were so right saying Skinnamarink was scary, I was skeptical but then it made me sleep with the lights on and every slightest noise made me jump for that whole week 😅

I just finished the movie and as someone who adores horror stories and movies I've never been so fuckin dread filled in my life. Shits got me a little fucked up nlg. It wasn't scary in the sense of like I was having a panic attack but more like I felt I watched something disturbing in a way that hit me in a way I'm not gonna forget and will probs have nightmares.

Its like im watching ads before i can watch some ads. Just come to the point man. 15 min video and 5 minutes in i got no value exept ads. The parents left the house and the kids were left by themselves. It was just supposed to be for a few minutes but it ended up being 572 days and in those days something came out of the darkness and until the end proceeds to scare the kids to try and get them to come to the creatures copies of their parents. You know Analogue Horror shit

I watched this movie over a Discord call with my boyfriend. It was like 1 am and I was alone in my university dorm room. Could not sleep normally for a few days afterwards cause I'd see the stupid fucking face at the end of the movie

You know a movie is one of the most scary ones when many horror movie fans say they themselves where scared by the movie. I find it insane that one of the most scary movies was made in Canada. Canada is one of the places you would not expect one of the scariest movies to come out of. When I think of scariest movies I often think of Japan since Japan is known for a lot of weird content.

I can't understand how anyone finds this "psychological horror" crap scary. I wouldn't hate it so much if normal horror still existed. But increasingly horror is turning to this junk.

This was the first horror movie I couldn't finish, but out of sheer annoyance. I have mesophonia, certain sounds annoy and anger me. I knew chewing sounds and certain fabrics rubbing together affect me, but this movie revealed another sound I can't stand: mumbling small children with flat emotions cuz they can't act.

The boredom I could handle, the constant crackling, the painfully slow pace. But the stupid child murmuring? Couldn't do it.

Well, I thought I was prepared for this video since I watched the movie, but I must’ve missed the part with the woman appearing in the frame and I wasn’t ready for that

Edit: okay actually remember that part but I thought it was the kid (or something resembling the kid) staring at the camera. I had my eyes covered 3/4th of the time.
