I know a few doctors who moved back to Canada from the US because the headache of dealing with insurance wasn't worth the extra money. Since each insurance company had a small army of reps and peer reviewers, it was impossible to form any kind of relationship with any of them

I do not understand how people are not aware of this situation. Healthcare in America is driven by the insurance company. Millions of people are suffering and i hope this will somehow get addressed for the better.

who the hell do you think are driving this inflation? some evil entity? well, sort of. but no, you are. Yes you, consumers are responsible for driving this inflation. stop buying unnecessary shit. you don't need a new phone every fucking year. you don't need three TVs in your home. You don't need that 70" TV or a brand new whatever. C'mon people. you know who fucked this economy up? You all did! you need to realize that the banks are the ones that benefit from your greed. But you all fucked this up. I don't believe avg IQ in the US is 95. It's more like 70. bunch of mindless animals shopping around is what the US is.

here is the real problem. it's the corrupt banking system that controls everything in the US. They want you to be in debt, just like the big pharma wanting you to be on meds for the rest of your life. best thing to do is to not pay any of your debts. this is the only way to stick it to the corrupt banking system of the US. If none of the loans are paid back, the financial system will fail and that will cause massive deflation. And everything will become affordable again without credit cards and loans. Don't pay back your debt. fuck the banks.

It's not the system that's bad.. it's how it's implemented based on corruption, greed, and incompetence on the govt, individual, and commercial sides. Govt only healthcare has it's own problems too. Deductibles used to be limited to an avg of about 500-750 before Obamacare with govt meddling pushed them to to 4-5k. The personal cost of a doctor visit including prescriptions used to be $50-100 until drug development companies decided it was better to get you addicting to treating a disease rather than curing it. It used to be super simple to get same day appointments and longer times seeing a doctor until huge companies bought up all the health care providers. There was a time where the USA had the best Healthcare system in the world without being government run...but that was when we actually had a culture and a society... and the elderly weren't abandoned but looked after by extended family.. and people were embarrassed to receive anything for free without working for it. It's not healthcare that's broken, its culture, greed, corruption and just bad governance. Going all socialist and making politicians responsible for healthcare doesn't fix anything long term.

American healthcare is truly ridiculous. I live in Australia and almost died from a kidney infection and spent 2 days and 2 nights in emergency. It cost me $2, and that's because I purchased something from the vending machine.

My insurance company is trying to make me pay quadruple the amount for something that was only $55 self pay at a walk-in clinic. The total bill from my insurance for that visit was $255 but they were nice enough to knock it down to just $200... Isn't American healthcare so generous??! /s

Let's not forget it's not "health insurance" per-se, it's "health minus eyes, teeth, and prescriptions".

Eyes, teeth, and prescriptions are usually (but not always!) handled by separate companies, with their own rules, copays, deductibles, etc.

(sarcasm) It's especially awesome when your name in the health, vision, and prescription systems don't match each other, because some lazy HR slob didn't bother to double-check.

funny video, one thing I will say is that I've had several plans over the years, never had a problem finding out who was in and out of network. its usually just on the insurance website as like a search thing, or you can usually call the drs office and ask. also worth mentioning my current plan applies out of network expenses towards deductible and out of pocket max, it just makes my coinsurance 100% before out of pocket max. IDK if that is standard though, I don't think my last plan was like that.

Insurance is ran with people with business degrees.. not medical and they make 10s of millions a year so they don’t think of working class. Just trying to make ends meet and put the members and doctors through hell just trying to cover something. I work in pulmonary and we have to do prior authorizations all the time just to cover inhalers… and find adorable ones for pts. We also have to do them for at scans and lung screening to make sure cancer has not spread if come back extra it’s so sad some people give up they don’t want to leave there families in debt :(

I knew someone who had to figure out what codes to send in in order to get procedures & such covered. They'd work for hours, into the night at home, trying to find something when the "standard codes" weren't applicable or were kicked out. Getting people what they needed to survive or heal was a point of pride, thank goodness.
Time was also a factor. Not only do things need to be submitted by deadline (Irony? Sadly, no.), but if those the codes didn't get processed in time (overworked, burned out, etc.), the process would either start over or be a load of work for nothing.
I hope things have changed, but I doubt it.

The average single deductible in 2022 in the USA was over 4k. It is a statistical betting scheme for the insurance companies. In some cases you are best off not having an insurance, because it will not cover anything and can even prevent the HC provider from giving you a discount. Yeah, that's right - your HC costs can get skyhigh for routine operations because of the ballooned pricing specifically for the prospect of the insurer covering it, only for it to leave it for the customer to pay. You would not want to pay like 8k for a bandage + vitamin shot treatment. Oh when they start running a lot of tests for basic symptoms, you know they are trying to up the hospital fee.

I had to wear an external defibrillator once. I have an excellent cardiologist who actually had to go to a hearing with my insurance company to get it approved, and after 14 days in the hospital, I was set up with a zol life vest but we were still waiting on their decision. He explained it like this: the cost was $5,000 a day and he prescribing it for 3 months. He said "they hopefully will cover it, but there's a chance they won't. You are not at risk of a heart attack, you're at risk of sudden cardiac death. I don't want you to leave the hospital without this vest. They're gonna tell you to sign a paper saying you agree to pay the amount if the insurance ultimately refuses. Sign it. They can sue you but they can't take your house or anything like that. And none of it will matter if you're dead.
Insurance eventually covered it but the stress of the situation probably made my condition worse
