Tell me your favorite bread or bread combination. I'll go first: a toasted slice of country loaf buttered with Marmite & avocado.✨

One if your best videos. I kind of thought the wick would mess up the butter. Sorry about that. Looks like a great idea, though.

Do you make an index of the titles of your recipes in the book so you can find one quickly? I write so many recipes down in notebooks, among other ways of noting them, but I've been very half-hearted about indexing and wish I'd stuck with it.

Have you ever tried grinding your own wheat berries? You might be surprised by your ability to process it. When that becomes the norm for your bread diet, you will also regain the ability to eat refined flour breads.

I thought I had a sensitivity to wheat, but it was to processed store bought flour. I started milling my own flour from whole wheat berries and I am not bothered by it at all! I am enjoying baked goods again. You might give it a try. I used my vitamix to make the flour at first then I bought an electric mill.

How about melting butter and then putting it in a metal or ceramic cup inside the hole of the bread and proceed. No troublesome wick or henky flavors. Everyone can tear bread and dip.

I’m glad you didn’t recommend this in the end, it seemed gimmicky to start. All I could think about was all the carbon build up from the flame, lol. 🤢

There was an Ukrainian restaurant here in Warsaw that served butter candles as the complimentary butter and bread before the meal. The bread was just your basic bread basket but the butter candle was presented like a real candle! I think they added something to it so it doesn't melt so easily and the soot gave it an interesting taste. It tasted burnt but not in a bad way.

There is gluten free al purpose flour to make bread if you can't tolerate wheat.

The butter candle always made zero sense to me, and it really belies fundamental misunderstandings about how candles work. First, the wax is what's burning, not the wick, so if you replace that with butter, you just get burned butter flavour and smell (which Emmy said). The wick is there to soak up the wax and bring it up to the flame.
Second, butter is only mostly fat, which is the only thing that could possibly burn. There's also a lot of water, milk proteins, and sugars; the water won't burn, and the other stuff will burn and smell bad. If you were going to make a butter candle (and you shouldn't), clarifying the butter would be a must.
And third, candle wicks are actually more clever than you think; they aren't just a piece of string. They are designed so that they curl when they burn, and the burnt end moves itself out of the flame. This makes the whole candle burn more cleanly, with less soot and less smell. If you just use random twine or string, you do not get this effect. Before self-trimming wicks, centuries ago, people had to have special candle scissors and periodically snip off the burnt end at the top of the wick as the candle burned.

The butter candle looks fun even though it's obviously a gimmick. I was going to say that it would be even better if it was garlic butter - maybe one to try with a beeswax coated wick.

I think I would prefer to make mini ones though as it kind of encourages double dipping to have a sharing one with big wedges of bread.

I think it would be better if you infused the butter with herbs. Like, melt it, add garlic, basil, parsley, and onion powder, then pour it into your cup mold. It would be much tastier than plain butter.

This is really just about presentation. Even though it's kinda "weird" i think it's cute, and a LOT better than the dang "butter boards" lol. Maybe do it this way but have a warmer under the cup, and just have that melt the butter instead of lighting the wick. Then it would still look pretty, but wouldn't burn the butter.

Add some garlic and herbs, let the butter melt a bit and set the loaf in the center of a charcuterie board for a party and this would be a hit! It looks pretty and I imagine adding flavoring to the butter would add to the sensory experience. Maybe set the candle in little mason to keep the butter from soaking into the bread before intended.

Watching you add ingredients by weight looks downright silly. I think I'll stick with the old-fashioned volumetric measurements myself.
It's a simple enough bread, that's one reason I like bread so much, it's too easy that it's fun to try variations to see what happens.

Suprised Emmy didn't make sourdough or gluten-free. Tip: if you cut out all processed foods & especially focus on organic you're less likely to develop gluten/wheat sensitivity. it's usually gut damage from pesticides, among other things. (plastic, parasites, etc.) SilverFernBrand has gut healing info & supplements.

I heard you say you have developed a wheat sensitivity.
Most people will.. it's the glyphospate they spray it with to dry it and the Way wheat has been morphed over the years to create a sturdy disease resistant crop.. wheat organic or not is no longer a good safe food...😢
