I was a bit going the green way of theorys and there was a thing.. Thoothbrushes from young sticks.. I tried Birchwood... After a lot of chewing on it: tadaaa a brush that is very fine and soft... So i tried also a bit painting with.. And its ok.. I am a noob. But i didnt see a difference between industrialor manufactured brushes or a chewed stick... If i knew it earlier i could saved maybe 60 euro of painting utensils and looking a bit more suspect in the art class ( yes i was in some artclasses without a talent for painting.. I can chewing on sticks and beeing happy because it turns into a brush... I am a easy guy😂) also nick neddos book where he make a lot of painting tools out of weed or something.. A really really greate book and all of you who paints or craft things need to take a look.. Again; nick neddo👌

I came to watch how to make brushes and for some reason what fascinated me most is that there is a living person named Sylvia Fine… you know, like from The Nanny smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

You are taking something that could actually be very simple and much more effective as a tool and making it waaaayyy harder than necessary. Take a look at the Japanese pain brush artisans. they have been making the best brushes in the world without metals for centuries. No tin just bamboo, natural glues, and simplicity.

This video is all over the place and has very little to do with making your own brushes.

I really enjoyed this! back in 2010 I racked my brain doing this I wanted to do a painting like a old Dutch master but with my own pigment. And ended up going crazy with the variety of natural pigment you could achieve from minerals and I even made stacked lead and vermilion. The best tip I can give for brushes is feral hog closer related a Eurasian boar makes the best brushes the natural flagging and spring of the bristles make it ideal for oil brushes not sable but definently better then the Chung King hog they use for most modern brushes. Maybe a little late to the party but after 6 years that's what I got the best results with.
And when I was done I made a painting that genuinely looked and felt old. Although modern synthetic pigments preform much better then what I could achieve with just a hand Muller.

Rita Berg in that discussion about restoration . . . I was surprised that there were clear principles of restoration, respecting the original work . . . I always imagine the world of Modern Art to be Post-Structuralist & deconstructionist viz. death of the author - or, in this case, death of the painter. I'm impressed by the way they consult Art Historians to pay close attention to the Original Artist - great interview segment to accompany the video.

This stuff would be so much cooler if you were more concerned about the quality of your products made, I mean that was so cool watching you make the brushes up until the end when you just squeezed everything with pliers and it looked bad and functioned worse. This is becoming a trend in your videos... craftsmanship is seriously lacking

Why not go for the easier bound brushes? They were more common and simply were some wood, horse hair and than some string to press the wood together and hold the horse hair in place.
