I made yogurt and cheese and butter, raised my own fruits and vegetables. My children are all grown up and they say, my mother can go to the pantry and take out some food and make a deliscious meal.

I was raising 6 children alone and going to ccollege full time. I had 10.00 to last us one week in them . I went to the dented can store and bought 7 boxes of mac and cheese, and a can or two of corn. I gave plasma to get enough gas for the car to get to school. Yes, I qualified for wIC and I breast fed my twins, I used cloth diapers for my twins. I told my older kids they couldn't complain I fed them what I had. My shoes wore out and I put cardboard in them. I love you so much. The information you are giving out is exactly what my mother taught me. She would not let us date until we could make a dress, can fruit and vegetables, etc.

One of my biggest inspirations towards frugal living in general is Ingvar Kamprad of IKEA (the founder and CEO). The guy was the definition of frugal. For the most part, he would take coach on all his flights, drive a volvo (from the 80s) save sauce packets and salt packets, he would buy used clothing and everything for a great price. He had a couple of fancy things, but not a lot and that was later on. He was worth 80 billioin when he died. And that was just selling furniture. Imagine him selling tech. I love frugal hacks. This video is a perfect example.

Plasma donations help those in need. Not just a way of making money. I have a family member with myasthenia gravis that used to have to get plasma transfusions. Thankful for people that donate plasma.

Reader's digest book "Homemade" has a recipe for savory meat mix that stretches 2 1/2 lbs ground beef into four pints of meat mix to be used in chili and a hamburger helper knock off meal.

I too have building stories. I love learning how the Lord walked others through their journeys. It was a big deal when I discovered the savings of going from reheating refried canned beans to figuring out how to cook starting with dry beans to soak over night and slow cook through the day, was the beginning of my journey transition. To a few years down the road learning about programs that helped you build a home by sweat equity with no money to put down. I am still in that home 26 years later. To homeschooling with little to no budget, the Lord commonly prompted me with the question “What do you have in your hands?” Which carried me a long way.and He blessed as I prayerfully walked out my journey 💕

One thing that’s good about donating plasma is it is income tax and SS free money. Not a lot of that allowed legally.

My advice for people who can't seem to put enough food on the table is to focus on the cheap staples first. Rice, Potato and pancakes are very cheap. When you don't have enough not being hungry is the first priority. Next consider any way you can legally get more money, a side hussle or a marketable skill or something. Then finally consider healthy food. You can also get free wild edibles like dandelion, broadleaf plantain, wood sorrel, most types of clover, Queen Anne's lace, wild sunflower, crab apples, blueberries, etc.

Soups and casserole and sheet pans dinners with whole foods on it are gonna save money. Chicken leg quarters cut into pieces. Ground turkey, eggs dishes, are cheap. Start with 20lb of rice and store it in large containers like from old fashioned oats containers. Pancake mix, sugar, 20 lb of potatoes, oats, lentils because they are easier on the stomach. Add onion and baby carrots. Buy on sale and use the aeaso cabinet you already accumulated.

Thank you! I just moved out on my own not to long ago and am still slowly learning how to do things. For example I had no idea I could use can of mushroom soup for stroganoff! My family always uses the packet for it. Few months ago I was able to get a bunch of the soup on sale, so this will help me work through them

Thank you Jamerrill. I have been watching you for years and I love to hear your stories and thoughts. I have a lot of guilt and shame around food shopping- I always forget something and always go over- which ends up always being an issue, then I feel terrible about it- but I feel the same way- I need to make sure my babies are fed first. What is your best tip for staying within budget? using cash? Thanks xo

I’ve been homeschooling for 19 years and have considered somehow offering encouragement and info for those who’d like to homeschool, but I’m not even sure where or how to begin, Jamerrill! I’ve been following YOU for years and I think I found you on FHD. I’m also nervous at the thought of “how do I know this will generate revenue for us?” What advice do you have for someone like me? Where can we even begin?

I 'add' a bit to my grocery budget in the way I shop clothes for my boys. Most of their clothes and shoes are bought during sales. If the price is very good I'll even buy a size bigger. Schoolshoes always have to be a certain type so no worry it won't be in fashion next year. Trainers and clothes and PJ's for home the same, it doesn't matter that it is from the last years minecraft hype... The schoolblazer I buy a plain one from a normal shop and get the badge from school for a little price and sew it on myself. Saves me almost half of the price if I were to buy the blazer with logo from the schooluniform provider the school works with. Also they and even me and my husband don't have loads of clothes were we won't wear half of them. This makes that my grocery budget is more and if then there is still left it gets saved for a special treat for the boys.

I really enjoyed listening to you. Interestingly enough WE are approaching retirement, so we are talking opposite ends of the spectrum: however , I am looking at ways to a) build my pantry even more since I will have time snd b) budget saving tips for cooking on a reduced/ limited income. Very inspiring story and yep I have been where you were and it was refreshing hearing your story. May God continue to inspire you and hopefully I can use some of your tips as I prepare to retire yet cook those bigger family meals maybe once a week for my son and his wife and 2 grand kids.

Girl plasma has changed! During the pandemic they shut down child care. It still isnt back in Texas, childcare. But now its usually $75-$80 per week and sometimes they run deals where you can make $800 in 6 weeks. (so anyone who reads this, check your local areas!) I love these tips, I have down so many of them over the years. I also grew up with food insecurity and it really changed how i wanted my adult life to be. I taught myself all these skills, so I could teach my kids so they wouldn't ever be hungry. This was a great video! Oh and if you are in Texas an seeing this, look up town talk! we have a store just like this here. Multiple in different areas. As I watch your videos I always think, oh man I need to get down there again.

I don’t think powdered milk is as cheap as it used to be but it is a good milk stretcher. If whole milk is the same price as 2% you can cut the whole milk with half powdered milk and add water and it can save you some money. Peanut butter is also a good stretcher. You can put it on top of pancakes with a little syrup and there is supper. No meat needed!

A friend of mine is from Kentucky and she said they used to eat beans and dumplings a lot that sounds good to me! We normally had beans and cornbread then you could make baked beans from the beans and have it with fried potatoes and cottage cheese. Beans and rice are also good and put in the Mexican seasoning. The English eat beans on toast for breakfast. Oatmeal and rice are great for breakfast and low cost compared to the price of boxed cereal.

25 years married here too, we went through a lot of the same struggles and plasma donation was something we seriously considered but never did. I wish I had known someone like you back then I knew nothing about being frugal, money management or meal planning and barely knew how to cook. I remember lots of times we sat in the parking lot of the grocery store waiting for my husbands check to direct deposit so we could go in and get something to eat because there was nothing at home. Thankfully we aren’t in that situation at the moment and haven’t been for 10+ years but it’s good to remember where we came from to stay humble. ❤
