오늘은 아름다운 꽃도
내일이면 시드는 것.
The flower that smiles today
Tomorrow dies;

우리가 머물기를 바라는 모든 것은
잠시 유혹하다가 날아가 버리는데,
All that we wish to stay
Tempts and then flies.

이 세상 즐거움이란 무엇인가?
What is this world's delight?

밤을 비웃는 불빛도
잠간이기에 화려해 보이는 것.
Lightning that mocks the night,
Brief even as bright.

도덕이란 얼마나 덧없는 것인가!
우정은 또 얼마나 드문 것인가!
Virtue, how frail it is!
Friendship how rare!

사랑이란 오만한 절망을 대가로
얼마나 허망한 행복을 파는 것인가!
Love, how it sells poor bliss
For proud despair!

그들은 곧 사라지겠지만,
우리는 기쁨과 우리 것이라고
말하는 그 모든 것보다 
더 오래 살아남을 존재.
But we, though soon they fall,
Survive their joy, and all
Which ours we call.

하늘이 푸르고 찬란한 동안,
꽃들이 한참 화려한 동안,
Whilst skies are blue and bright,
Whilst flowers are gay,

밤이면 빛을 잃을 눈동자가
밝고 즐거운 낮 동안,
세월이 소리 없이 흘러가는 동안,
Whilst eyes that change ere night
Make glad the day;
Whilst yet the calm hours creep,

꿈을 꾸자. 그리고 잠에서 깨어나 
그때 실컷 눈물 흘리자.
Dream thou -and from thy sleep
Then wake to weep.
