Someone put a 90's Ford Taurus SHO engine in the back of the 90's Ford Festiva. Jay Leno owned/s one. Quick little cars. And no turbo needed to beat Porsches, Lambos and Ferraris

Work-related I went to a garage in rural Germany (rural!). Man was I suprised to see it was a garage with about 20 cars in it. Lotus, some Porsches, old Mercedes, a mint Opel Manta, new Focus RS, Mitsubishi Evo and: the Renault 5 Turbo.

that one was sold as the alpine turbo in my country, Portugal ,the turbo is a bit older only sold in red and metalic blue,i have the red, and you talk with no sense , VW golf with thec w12 engine 2000´s and a lot, then 70´s again did you know that already in the 2000´s Renault launched a renault Clio(old 5) with two seats and a V6 engine in the back ,so the golf and the 30 years older renault 5 doesn´t make any sense but as you said a entire generation didn´t knew Renault, but i myself in the 90´s bought a renault clio williams(150 h.p.) numbered edition, litle fast car but than Renault released more because they sold the numbered edition too fast but what about the owners of the suposed clio williams numbered edition, this to comemorate the williams F1 car wining the championship, before already in the 90´s the released a super5 turbo ,even today petrol heads want it for it´s power, the last before they named it clio as they named all renault models with names instead of numbers as it was known since early 70´s, Le car also only knew that some years ago because of a sitcom on tv

French citizen here. That thing is absolutely beautiful (just take out the cheap plastic parts of the times). The lines are instantly recognizable and I can't wait for the new Electric R5 that should be on the roads in 2023/2024.

This was my poster car as a teen. We had one importer on the west coast, Sun, who managed to get about a dozen into the country at the time. They really are impressive to see in full race mode. We had a local, Jerry Fink, who brought one to an autocross in New Jersey. It had all the glass removed and was clearly beyond stage 1 (160hp) tune. Jerry was also an excellent driver, and it was giggle inducing to watch the R5 Turbo scoot. We had a garage box at the end with a chicane to ensure you didn't come in it too hot. Jerry managed to find a way to come in super fast, pivot the car, and jump the car into the box. It wish I'd had a smart phone back then to film it.

The closest I came to driving this dream car was when we bought our Abarth 500 in 2013, which we still own. Obviously not the same thing at all, but a cheap practical car that I like to believe was in some ways inspired not just by the original 1000 Abarth, but also by Renault's bold move to pack lighting into a very cheap, very light hatch.

R5 Turbo 1 should have had a place in a Fast and Furious movie.

In fact, the engine in the regular production Renault 5 was front-central, which means that the transmission was in front of the engine, not behind it like in an Audi, but rather like in a Citroën Traction Avant, so Renault had to use a Renault 30 gearbox for its homologation Renault 5 Turbo.

To me, the R5 Turbo is the definition of "sexy". Very hot hatch. Everything in it is so perfect and iconic...

The R5 Turbo II is the only thing that makes me pride of my country.

AKA the "Widow Maker" in Spain. So many young people died crashing this things "racing" illegaly that they almost got banned. Twice.
My dad's best friend crashed his against ANOTHER parked R5. He bought a new one a week later, wich he kept as a show car.
