ОтветитьI didnt know that first whisky and i thought i was a profi, goes to show! good video
ОтветитьI was amazed to see a campervan the same as ours standing on the deck of the ferry
ОтветитьFantastic video! Nat.Geo. should have you hosting a show! You have such a lovely pace and demeanor as a "travel host" :)
I'm travelling to Scotland in 2 weeks with my husband and our dog to road trip around the highlands and west coast. I wasn't sure about visiting Islay with our time, but this video has really convinced me that we should make it happen! Thank you!!!
Can I ask: how many nights did you stay? Did you boondock at all with your van or only stay in designated/official camping areas?
Thank you (if you have any secret tips, I'd love to know)
I've been.making my way through your videos and I have to say that they are so relaxing to me. I'm a middle aged mom in Kansas, US dreaming of rainy cool Scottish days. Thank you for sharing your adventures!
ОтветитьA 750 ml bottle of Laphroaig or Lagavulin costs 105 $ CDN where I live. I guess they're not that eager to sell.
ОтветитьWhat a lovely island really enjoyed the video
ОтветитьJust come across this, with whisky try not to drink it at cask strength, they are like that so you can add water to release the flavour yourself, when adding water to cask strengthen you'll achieve something called Scotch Mist, the water reacts with the oils from the wood cask
Chill filtration removes the oils(flavour)
40% is too low for whisky
E150 should be banned

The music is so on point for this travel vlog! 👍
ОтветитьReally enjoyed seeing Islay again, used to go to bruichladdy when l was a child, put me in the mood to go back again . ATB
ОтветитьWhenever I've visited Distilleries in Scotland (Pitlochry was my favourite!) I was ALWAYS told that single malts MUST have a few drops of water added - preferably from the same water-source as the scotch itself. I wondered if you were told to add water; it certainly brings out the flavours and senses. (Of course, NEVER, EVER add Coke or Lemonade!!)
Ответитьfrom the mull of oa you could see malin head north inishowen
ОтветитьHi Ruth, you asked if there were any other square lighthouses. There’s one in Ireland called Blacksod. It’s sort of famous for being the place they took the weather forecast for deciding when to launch the d day landings!
ОтветитьAwsome Locations and amazing views of the beach. Very well explained about whiskey. RE COWS, GOAT ETC KEEP WATCHING YOU / FOLLOWING YOU BECAUSE OF BRIGHT PINK COLOUR OF YOUR JACKET. WE LOVED YOUR ALL THE VIDEOS.
ОтветитьDiscovered your videos while researching for our trip to Scotland this fall. Really enjoying them. As a fairly experienced whisky drinker, I’ve long wanted to visit Islay so this is perfect for me. Excellent video, as usual!
Ответить45 minutes by plane from Glasgow?? Is that plane powered by a few pigeons? Seems long.
ОтветитьRecently discovered your vlogs Ruth and I am thoroughly enjoying them ...... I shall work my way through your vlog history 🙂
ОтветитьNice Vedio, Enjoyed
ОтветитьSuch a great, helpful video. Thank you for sharing!
Ответить61.6 abv aka 120 proof lol
ОтветитьI'm officially calling it Ardberg from now on.
ОтветитьLove this video !!.
There is a very famous square Lighthouse in the Netherlands (where I live) om the Island "Terschelling". The Lighthouse is called "De Brandaris" its build in 1538 and still working.
That's funny. I just saw a square lighthouse the other day. There are quite a few in the US. Just Google square lighthouses. There are lots.
ОтветитьI love your vids. It's so nice that you're showing people so many places they would never get to see otherwise. So many beautiful islands. I worked in Edinburgh for a while once but never got to see any of the places you visit!
Ответитьあいかわず可愛いね🎉
ОтветитьWonderful tour, Ruth! In Lorain, Ohio, U.S.A., on the southern shore of Lake Erie (one of our "great-lakes" over here), there is an old and well-kept Square lighthouse!
ОтветитьBy the time I would make the ninth distillery I would be totally hammered 😂
ОтветитьMs Aisling. Today I had a 12 year old Highland Park. I had asked for an accompanying glass of water and the barmaid said "Should I pour that in the whisky"? I don't think I have screamed No with such anguish or emphasis in my life. As a regular in my local I have some incredibly small influence over which whisky they bring in. I suggested Laphroaig. Your vlog has reminded me after too many years of what a damnably civilised thing sipping a single malt can be. Many of the other regulars are necking lagers, some of which I appallingly understand to be Australian. I remain however a Scottish gentleman. With thanks.
ОтветитьHere is another Square Lighthouse ........The Green Point Lighthouse, Cape Town is an operational lighthouse on the South African coast. First lit on 12 April 1824, it is located on Mouille Point. The lighthouse was the first solid lighthouse structure on the South African coast and the oldest operational lighthouse in South Africa.
ОтветитьStill wearing those bi-focal sunglasses I see!
ОтветитьWhat an inspiring video of pure joy… Even felt the winds and tasted the crabs… Thank you for triggering to travel plans to Islay. 😊
Ответитьman i would be hamerd by the end of that tour.
Ответитьв бар сходить захотелось😅
ОтветитьAhhh this might be my favorite episode so far! I had tried Laphroaig, and I was expecting a very subtle smokiness. Unfortunately, what I got was rain water running off burnt railway ties. 🤣🤣 So when I was in Edinburgh and the Highlands, as a single American woman traveling alone, the game was 'Oh have you tried...<insertwhiskynamehere>' followed by a friendly wee dram of the stranger's favorite whisky. Of course, I simply could not refuse these very sweet folk, so of course, when asked about Laphroaig, I said no and happily enjoyed what was given to me. Such a great experience I cannot wait to go back! 💙🤍💙
ОтветитьDear Ruth. This is the first time that I saw your video. So interesting and amusing. Thank yoy.
ОтветитьRuth
Thanks a lot !!
I am the chef from Taiwan
I am looking for the any information of Whisky island !
I can’t even describe the love I have for you. Not the whisky part, but I’m in for that. Just your spirit of adventure ❤❤❤❤ my goodness! I love you 💕💕💕💕
ОтветитьHi Ruth, absolute professional travel report. Not only this one by the way! Question: I want to visit Islay, there are several options. By plane from Glasgow to Islay, but there is no possibility to rent a car. Do you have any informations of companies have rental cars on Islay. The second option is as you discribe in your report. By car through the Highlands to Kennacraig and by ferry to Islay. By far the most exciting route of course! But many hours to travel. Any advise regarding accommodation on Islay? Looking forward to hearing from you. With kind regards Nieck jan Boschman The Netherlands

ОтветитьEnjoying your trips Ruth. One thing I have done on 'singing sands' is walk on the dry sand and scuff my feet as I walk along, this is when I have heard the sound so many speak of, it has worked for me.
ОтветитьHi Ruth. I've been enjoying your videos. This one was of special interest because I'm a fan of Islay single malts, and Bunnahabhain is my favorite distillery. Unfortunately, I think the employee there steered you in the wrong direction. Stiuireadair is their recently released "bargain" whisky, and it's the only Bunnahabhain product I've had so far that was disappointing. You were very kind in your remarks when you tasted it, but it's quite sour and somewhat unpleasant (whisky critics agree), which is probably what you were thinking! To find out what Bunnahabhain does exactly right, try their 12-year-old, or the 18. They're wonderful! Also wonderful: your videography. You really did photographic justice to yet another beautiful place in Scotland. Thanks!
ОтветитьWell done Ruth. 10/10 for your presentation. An excellent tour of the island with a great introduction to the whisky distilleries. It's the best I have seen including the professionally produced adverts. Makes me want to get onto Islay. Here in Australia we don't have all of the whiskies shown but I do keep Ardbeg, Laphroig and Bowmore on hand. I had some Port Charlotte (spelling may be wrong?) which was very tasty too but just ran out of it. I particularly like the Laphroiag 1/4 cask as well as their 10 year. I'll have to find some of the others you showed to us.❤
ОтветитьRuth I just found your channel today, coming from your overnight alone in the bothy. You got a new subscriber! Great content.
ОтветитьI did this whiskey crawl last summer. The peated whiskey I wasn't so sure about at first but now I prefer it! so good. the cask strength is also quite the experience. its around 60% lol
Ответить❤❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьThank you Ruth for a great tour of Islay infused with interesting peated whiskey info! And thanks for highlighting other edible options like their local seafood. I am even more interested in touring Islay after watching this. Cheers.
ОтветитьGreat report. Thank you Ruth. If you ever need a base to explore the Kintyre Peninsula I have a holiday house in Tarbert - you’re welcome to use it any time.
