Equalizing your ears underwater is crucial to avoid discomfort and potential injury. Here are some effective methods:

1.𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫: Pinch your nose and gently blow through it. This increases pressure in your throat and opens the Eustachian tubes.

2. 𝐓𝐨𝐲𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫: Pinch your nose and swallow. Swallowing helps open the Eustachian tubes while the movement of your tongue compresses air against them.

3. 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐳𝐞𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫: Pinch your nose and make the sound of the letter “K.” This forces the back of your tongue upward, compressing air against the openings of your Eustachian tubes.

4.𝐋𝐨𝐰𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞: Combine the Valsalva and Toynbee maneuvers by pinching your nose, blowing, and swallowing simultaneously.

5.𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Tense the muscles of your throat and push your jaw forward and down as if starting to yawn. This can help open the Eustachian tubes.

Remember to equalize early and often, especially during the first 10 meters of descent, and never force it if you feel pain.
