I realize that the method of recording both sides at once is connecting all 4 inputs to the tascam and hard panning L + R while reversing side b. I just had a quick question. What sound card did (or could you use) to take 4 separate outputs from your daw and have 4 separate inputs for the Tascam?

Did you get those cassettes from National Audio Company in the USA?

I wish Minidiscs catch on like tapes are. I know it's not because it failed in the US so the players aren't readily available as much as tapes are. But I like digital physical media more than tapes and imo they still look futuristic.

one of my intern jobs was to dup personalized birthday songs onto cassettes. Fortunately, the master tapes were already made. I have no love for cassettes.

I did tape recording before watching and was completely self-taught, this helped me get an idea on specifically how to use the inner flaps, I just used the 1 extra flap version for track listing and if there was another it was solely for track listing. Lyrics never occured to me till this. Thank you

The 424 has a high speed record setting, so you could copy at twice speed.

I'm a big fan of casette tapes I grew up in a time When everyone used casette tapes if someone bought a new album we just copied it onto a casette and had it to play for as long as we wanted when fed up we just recorded over it .I kept all my casette tapes some over 45 years and they still play fine.Good quality casette tapes are really durable will last a lifetime if stored reasonably right .I live in a damp climate here in ireland and my 200+ casette tapes were in a cold attic for years just run them ffw and rev a time or two to loosen them out and they will play fine .oh and keep the heads clean by saliva on your finger and rub casette head no.need for expensive head cleaner. The sale of casette tapes has ballooned in recent years especially in China and India the two most hi tech countries in the world.

How come you didn't use Either the higher speed for Better Wow and Flutter and use DBX noise reduction? I get why you might want a more "Cassette" feel, but don't you use the portastudio to create a master recording? So then you use that Master cassette and a duplication device or a cassette deck, to achieve the best sound possible? In the end the people still get that cassette experience, as you could just record without Dolby NR. Just a thought

Why do some shots show you with only two line inputs? Can you get a good recording to the tascam with only 2 channels?

I did though watch the whole thing, and then took it to the comments, but no one seem to get that this is not very good cassette duplication method.
I mean doing it with 4 track machine becouse of:
-track width and location on tape. Home tape decks and 4 track machines like 424 you got here, have different track placements and widths, you can look it up in tascam manual.
-4 track are set up to use with chrome tape only, they dont have the selector like home hifi decks. I doesn't mean it won't work, but if you are printing onto type 1 ferric tape it isn't optimal
It would be better to just use multiple standard decks and a splitter.

Kind of surreal watching someone figure out this process we used to take for granted! I still have so many mix tapes from my early 20s!
