This is why I originally started watching DDE. NO BS drama about some mechanic, or Bently race car not getting done. No stupid 15 minutes of high revving in a tunnel. I'd love to see Mia come back with her own car maybe a whole build series. Personally, I'd like to see a Porsche come back to the channel.

ОтветитьAbout that battery and alternator problem. I’ve been an electronics enthusiast for over 8 years now doing just about everything with electrical including automotive electronics. I’m not an official expert keep in mind but ik my way around most electronics. Not a tuner for computers but have diagnosed some computer driven electrical issues before. That being said, a short breakdown of the alternator and battery will help to understand what things could go wrong or are wrong in your case. I’ll start off with the computer, the computer is what typically controls the alternators final output voltage, some vehicles depending on age don’t have a computer controlled alternator but I’ll get to that later, for computer controlled systems depending on the actual computer and its sensors it can read, it will either raise voltage up say to compensate for turning on the A/C, or if it’s super hot outside it might keep voltage at a lower level to preserve battery health. Now I don’t know how advanced your mercy or 599 computers are so I couldn’t tell you if (atleast on the merci in this case) the computer is not allowing the alternator to charge all the way or if it’s actually alternator problems. But this may help future diagnosis.
I’ll continue, besides the computers requested voltage for the alternator, is ofc the alternator itself, and a important component some people overlook is the voltage regulator/ control circuitry on the back or side of the alternator. Allows it to regulate its own voltage (in non computer controlled applications) or be the controller for the requested voltage of the computer. This can go bad as well. Meaning the rest of the alternator could be perfectly fine coils and everything but the regulator on the back not so much. This or bad diodes inside the casing on the rear of the alternator. Though diodes aren’t as common to go bad.
Again this won’t tell you what’s wrong in your case but I hope this will help the team to know which parts can be inspected or replaced in the case of these problems or similar problems.
Which as far as diagnosis goes I’ll get more into that as well.
For now, besides the alternator and computer side of things comes the battery side of things. Bad batteries besides going dead all the time and not holding a charge will also be harder to test for since they could read that they are charging even tho they aren’t. The best way to test a battery if it’s good or not or atleast strong enough for the time being is to use a load tester. A cheap one from harbor freight or even online would work. But it has to be a load tester, not just multimeter.
I will say, flooded led acid batteries (typical battery found in literally almost everything from factory like the one in the ram tow rig) are absolute sht. No lie not a single one from any brand is really that great, ESPECIALLY if your running heavier electrical loads. AGM Sealed batteries are many times better, and if I may suggest, from personal experience and plenty of other people, XSPOWER batteries is one of the best sealed agm battery makers out there. They are more expensive than the usual but they are not only more power dense but they last longer, can be mounted in different positions and will take longer to drain. XS power also makes lithium batteries and super capacitor banks aswell depending on application. Look into them, for the merci and 599s they make really good stuff.
Onto other problems and diagnosis I will say alternators do not usually like going over a certain rpm unless the pulley is sized correctly for it or it’s a specifically built one for racing or for a supercar for example. That being said I wouldn’t be suprised to see some of those older super car alternators not built to handle consistent high rpm’s lol. Last thing with the alternator is if you change pulley size to lower the rpm of the alternator itself, while it will help it last longer possibly, low rpm to idle may not produce as much charging power. Atleast sometimes. Always depends on specific applications so sorry I can’t give concrete answers to your problems but from my position I can only help so much.
Last thing I’ll say is, have Mike check with the computer the alternator control stuff all the cars, not just self diagnostic mode but also “requested voltage” and the actual voltage (might be referred to as duty cycle). Requested vs actual should be very close. Using a high end computer to check that stuff should allow you to see more in depth about the alternator and its condition. Again sorry for none specific answers but feel free to message me back if you’d like. I’ll help in any way I can.

Also definitely want to see the blue mercy and the yellow Diablo sv on the channel again but not at the expense of the senna try and strike a deal with out using the senna as compensation!

I think it’s awesome if we can include the idea of passing on the family business values and ideals. If she’s as passionate as you are she would be able to succeed you and your visions. I think there is some content even without a specific car you could do with Mia. Take her to driving school etc to learn high speed handling and maybe hone her skills on the simulator at the same time. Could also go down the other routes less traveled on the channel with different Porsche's and rare Mercedes stuff.
