This is quite an interesting report. Repeated reference to Rana Plaza episode could have been avoided though. Instead, more emphasis should have been given on how did we try to overcome the sabotage which were inflicted upon us with the help of local agents of some of our competitor countries. Not only billions of dollars have had been invested to build a better working environment conducive to international norms, Bangladesh now has the most LEED certified RMG units than any other country. Detailed discussion should have been done on that. As far as my knowledge goes, at least 300 RMG units are being lined up to get them LEED certified factories within a few years time. Some discussions should have been made on this very vital topic. The story of the so called buyers paying the least price to our quality apparels products should have been discussed in detail.These so called buyers sitting in Dhaka are actually agents of agents of the original buyers of giant retail stores of America Europe and Japan. In some case their income per dozen of garments exported from Bangladesh factories becomes more than the factories which manufacture the RMG items. This is an wanton exploitation of factory owners and workers who work so hard and take most of the risk by operating through Back to Back LCs. The reporter could include these vital points into its reporting as well. The factory owners' suicidal approach of cutting their competitor factory owners' throat by quoting FOB prices of a dozen of garments item sometimes even lower than their total production cost just to remain afloat should also have been discussed. Moreover, even during the present regime of record electricity production capacity of 25000 MW , the factories which are functioning are still been deprived of quality and uninterrupted electricity supply and new factories on the stream are not being assured of seamless electricity supply. The relevant stakeholders cite unacceptable lame excuses of dearth of adequate supply lines and too often grid failures The reporter should also have mentioned these in his reporting. For, these short supply of electricity is having export crunches accrued due to relevant stakeholders apathy towards completing the projects on time. Same is the case with primary fuel supply like natural gas to the export oriented industries including RMG factories. Many textiles Mills and RMG units are unable to come on stream because of natural gas supply shortage despite two units of LNG supplying units having capacities of supplying 1000 mmf per day but failing to deliver natural gas to its full capacity because of non completion of required gas pipelines. The contractors who are failing to complete the projects on schedule must be taken to task as they are causing irreparable heavy loos to our foreign exchange earnings. Plus the tax payers are compelled to pay millions of dollars of capacity charges to LNG units despite these units sitting idle.
