Hardly a healthy specimen himself, you should practice what you preach like other doctors, Dr Barry, Ekberg, Berg, Baker for example, all fit and lean, you may have academic credentials but visually it looks like a book promotion only .

I barely work out, am moderately active, 6'4" 90kg , from day to day I can swing between eating 1000 calories to 4000 calories. My weight doesn't change. Personally believe it is about what I put into my body over how many calories I burn. I also believe what Yeo says about diet correlating to most modern day diseases - All these things we rarely encountered until the 80's onwards.

Excellent interview, congrats! However, as a scientist, I feel more about biology and nutrition should have been discussed and not simply call certain eating patterns (e.g. keto) “a stupid diet”and saying any attempt to lose weight makes the brain trigger a warning and makes you suffer.

That is simply not true and a low carb or keto diet is perfectly sustainable (you are never hungry even while losing weight) and takes zero effort. If you fall back to bad habits it’s because there is addictive sugar everywhere and because of social habits.

There is nothing natural or sensible about our modern food supply, with supermarkets having all kind of foods available 24/7, most of which had never been available for humans before, including for example fresh fruits and vegetables in cold areas.

Hubby and I have ‘been keto’ for over 12 years. He’s 70 this year and I will be 66. Just had our annual physical, and we are both like someone 40 years younger. It IS sustainable.

BMI don't take count of genetic difference, some has bones who weight more or muscle who weight more than average people, or you are larger shoulder shape than other. Some can be 1,7m with 80 kg and look more skinny than some at 1,7m with 70kg. And it's even worst if you compare a skinny 1,7m no abs and no muscle look compare to a 1,7m who have abs and decent muscle size (healthy not going bulk).
I've stop listen medecin about bmi etc since i was 10 and was say "obese" for my size when in reality i was just having abs and decent muscle compare to many same size of my age who was not doing many sports (and i was not doing musculation etc, only judo and some exercice at home sometimes) and my diet was way worst than now that she is more healthy than in the past

He never explained why we need to eat less meat for our health or the environment. And there was an overly obese person on one of the magazine covers and the headline said “this is healthy.” So people are right to call that out, they’re not assholes. If we want an honest discussion, celebrating it as healthy is dishonest

The main benefit to counting calories is that it doesn’t take long before you learn not to waste your calories on high calorie foods like chips. Obviously, it’s probably impossible to count your calories in such a way that you nail it exactly every day, but that’s not what will make you overweight if you gave a general set goal amount.

When we were young we would be out all day riding our bmx with mates. Would come home for dinner. Plus sports all week and Saturdays. It’s a very simple equation. Activity vs very little as we get older. But if you’re a tradie. Then you should be pretty lean. Unless you’re eating sht at work and at home. Soft drinks etc.

I did not gain 15kg between the ages of 20 and 50. In fact, I lost a few kg and was somewhat thinner and fitter at 50. Do you want to know my secret?

Well, first I started off as a fat 20 year old ... then I just eat whatever I felt like for 30 years, and I was 50. 🤣

I was never as fit or thin as Steven, but then I never exercised and I've never seen the inside of a gym in my whole life. I ended up like Giles. I also never ever attempted any diet. I just simply ate whatever I felt like whenever I was hungry, and stopped when I was not. It's probably genetic. My dad had 4 siblings, my mother had 7. Only one was fat. All the rest (and all my grandparents) has the same body shape.

There are people who live to eat, and there are people who eat to live. And I have to admit, I'm in the later group. Giles talked about people who love food and those who fear food. I'm more in the "don't care" camp. I only eat because I don't enjoy feeling hungry.

Why do people think that eating plant base is less destructive? Do any of these people realize what it takes to grow food and what destruction has to be done to the ground to grow those plants. Plant base people always feel they destroy nothing because they eat plants.

I think most people will do great on low carb unprocessed food. Keto is extreme, put some fruits and vegetables in it, limit the "meh" carbs like oats and potatoes and keep the crap carbs away like wheat and sugar because those are addictive and lead to autoimmune conditions (wheat) absolutely every overweight patient i talked to was obviously addicted to wheat or sugar or both. Wheat plus fat is the number one addictive substance in the world right now, oh and sugar plus some artificial aromas(coke, ice cream). And milk is for baby cows, maybe this is why you feel bad after dairy. Butter works tough
