Don't get fired. Walk if you feel you have to. If you feel like you're going to get laid off and you've been there long enough to get a decent pay-off, sweat it out.

Now days if you are in the high tech industry they have you sign a no compete in order to get a severance. This forces you to change your career. Bad if you need that severance and don't have money to re-skill. So in this case it's most likely good to quit. But everyones situation is different.

I have a question too ask since I’m working in a PT job and my job title is Maintenance at a YMCA corporation so I have a question about the definition of Getting laid off Termination or Quitting . You think it’s ok too quit a job if you don’t really find it attractive or not really worth it. My job employment history it that I got laid off from Toys R Us and Walgreens and I quit from a nursing home job called Sunrise senior living because it was some situation so small and I quit a job at Melo park mall job as a Janitor service I was a Temporary employee. Right now I’m working at a Part Time job at the YMCA but it’s not really much more too do.

They shouldn't be able to know anything about my life. It isn't there business or anyone's for that matter. Interviews are bogus. It's just a bunch of liars trying & getting the higher paying good jobs. Just give a 3 month probation bc et's be honest that's the only way they'll ever know if you're good for the job. Plus they should've able to hire friends or family. It creates toxic work environments. They also should make sure that the employees & management aren't creating toxic work environments every few weeks bc people get together to take advantage of others who work very well & over work only those top performers for the same or alot of the times less pay burning them out. All a while the less performing employees are stress free with not doing their share of work & last longer in the company & take advice of the new top performers & its a vicious cycle.

4 years ago I was part of a mass RIF (to outsource our jobs). I felt shocked but also anger at how the company did that to all of us at once. I found a job 2 months later but I still miss a lot of the people I used to work with.

Most of the hiring managers I spoke with during my job search were aware of the RIF, news travels fast if it’s a known company.

One new employee was terminated due to poor performance and violating multiple company policies. He the posted a bunch of crazy negative reviews online then a few days later revised them and removed identifying information. He then filed for unemployment and actually got it. Didn’t matter that he didn’t do his job and would leave the premises for hours at a time and was rude yo his boss. He STILL got his unemployment. Go figure.

I got fired in August from my last job. They started by writing me up for cell phone use when my car broke down and I was looking for cars while doing work even though I was still waiting for parts. Then they didn't like how I answer a question and they decided to terminate me. It was to the point that they were giving me the cold treatment. Not even asking me about what I was doing. They will ask my coworkers who were helping me but not me. Also other people used their phones never got written up.

How many jobs will completely lie to you about how successful they are, or if they have been constantly firing employees for the job your about to take. Or if they are soon about to run out of funding. etc.

So considering they're seems to be zero morals when it comes to this... Why should I as the employee be honest about me being fired laid off etc. etc.

Try not get fired. That's like having a criminal record. The companies put this information in the system. Everywhere i would go, I get denied. It will come sofar that the best bet is talking to attorney and see if i would get it reduced to a layoff or i resigned. No court involved. Attorneys from both parties might agree. It doesn't hurt to ask. The fee might not be that high .

Please reply soon. I have a big question.
I'm going to apply to a new job because the hours here are slow and competitive, I don't get along so well with my coworkers, and I can't stand my boss. Both applications (that I found online) ask about my previous workplace and my employer. One says "Company, Phone, Address, Supervisor, Job Title, Starting Salary, Ending Salary" etc. The other mentions employer's name and address. So either company would really contact my boss? I don't want that; I worry she would make me look bad. I admit, I've made mistakes at my current job that she's witnessed. Not enough to fire me, but still. I mean, sure, I'm a very hard worker, and she once thanked me for it (though it sounded fake in tone, like she was JUST saying it). BUT...there were times I seemed irresponsible. I'll spare the time on the details unless someone asks for it. Let's just say she isn't so much the context-understanding type (especially since my learning disability makes me do "dumb" things). She's one of the reasons I want to leave the job: to stop feeling like an idiot and be more competent somewhere else. And that's precisely one reason I do not want her speaking of me for this other job. Meanwhile, for said mistakes, how do I know she won't mention them, thus costing me my potential new job? IS her name and address so they can contact her?

Lol, if you tell your interviewer that you got fired, you're an absolute fool.

Most hiring managers never call your last employer, they might call a business reference at most.

I've landed offers for Senior Project Manager positions on the spot during a panel interview, and I know they never called my last employer because i gave them my secretaries number 😂

What happen if my organization has mission statement like this:

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."
―The Night's Watch oath

This is probably the only circumstance in which I would quit without any second though. 😁

From what I understand, it’s okay if you quit your job or if you were laid off because of company changes, but a firing can get some raised eyebrows. A lot of times, when a company lays you off, they’ll mark you down as a “rehire”, which is good if they actually check your information.

Aside from the obvious financial hit, being fired carries a certain feeling of dishonor with it - it literally is a dishonorable discharge, to put it in military terms. Thankfully, I've never been fired due to poor performance, just laid off due to economic downturn, which is no picnic, of course, but I at least felt good that it wasn't my fault.

I believe that from the point of view of maintaining our self esteem and motivation to succeed it is best to quit a job rather than be fired or laid off. If you quit your job you always know that your current situation is by choice and not because of other people or the universe being against you. This empowers us to be confident going forward and confidence in your own abilities is a great attribute to have during the job interview process. You can honestly tell your future employer that you left your old employer to pursue new goals in life. I would only quit an existing job without having another job offer under conditions that are of a legal or ethical concern where I could not of good conscience continue to participate in my current job role. Usually if a company is working to fire you, there are indicators at least a year in advance which gives you time for a job search. Being laid off can happen in as little as 3 months if your employer wants to temporarily set aside profits to cut labor costs. All they have to do is meet the reduced work requirement of the law which they can accomplish by not accepting new contracts for about 2 months. If you notice a drastic reduction in work at your current employers I would immediately start a job search by updating your resume and sending it out to prospective new employers.
