Look ag That Silat Tournament, As a Malay i ashame, They compete but there are no trace of silat at all, They just think to win no matter how. Sadly, sadly, Very sad, They just show something that not silat to audience. That Kid Tournament is same with street fight, No art of silat at all, Just Blindly hit to get stupid point. Ashame to Silat.

As one of practicioner, l'd say the Old School Pencak Silat is effective for self defence or a street fight because Pencak Silat is originaly a close quarter combat technique which created purely to fight and kill during a war against a colonialism in the past.
Inflict less Art or Flashy moves, but deliver More Pain.

But a Modern Pencak Silat nowadays mostly just for show/art purpose.

Silat will be deadly if you use karambit. If a fight occurs with a karambit user, run away immediately or protect your throat, arteries and Achilles. because that thing will tear you apart like a raptor's claws.

I gotta be honest nowadays Silat doesn't works anymore, yeap Silat works so well if you're fighting one on one but modern world people always try to gang you up instead of classic one on one to settle things...Silat style is way too much complicated you can't handle too many enemy so muay thay or boxing is the easiest option

Despite being underated but this martial art so effective it could kill you anytime. Last month there's two killed by accident despite their humble solidarity. And one died during new belt trophy.

Silat is so deadly if you use it without hold your self.

Better do not use it for street fight.

It's efficient in street fight.. stroke to each vital point & lock joint to break & disable your opponent quickly... But it's very brutal which most cases cause permenant injury or even death.

I like these martial arts which use the physics of the body. Using the hips, turning the whole body and so on.

Reminds me of wing chun with the quick flow my movements.

Definitely trash compared to other martial arts in unarmed combat, clearly if you put a knife in their hands Silat looks deadly. Then again, if the other guy has a knife no matter what his qualifications are, he’s won anyways.

Traditional silat so deadly on the street. But for sport wise, when strict rules implemented, silat not so effective.

Kenapa di MMA ( resmi ) tidak ada petarung yang menggunakan silat karena sangat tidak cocok dan berbenturan dengan aturan pertandingan MMA karena gerakan yang selama ini di ajarkan akan sangat terbatas.
Silat yang anda lihat di kejuaraan olahraga itu di batasi gerakannya dan sedikit sedikit juri menghentikan pertandingan karena aturan gerakan berbahaya.

silat divided into 2 types,silat for show,where u see them opening with "bunga" we called,and second silat for fight,believe me u dont wanna mess with this types of silat,it can literally kill u with just one finger,and its made for army to use especially in Malaysia & Indonesia,its banned to use in many regions in Malaysia because its very dangerous

So Silat hasn't been watered down for the sake of becoming more popular, because is extremely dificult to learn, practical and deadly; I like it, sadly, my only exposure to Silat are The Raid movies.

Many of the ancient martial arts suffer from being watered down for sport but thank fully traditional schools are still going strong for penak silat.
