5'8" isn't short. It's average height. Movie always use devices to adjust height of actors and actresses. They need to be portrayed to be of similar height.

The difference of an inch or two in an actors height can be the determining factor of whether or not he is offered a role. Hollywood prefers a 6ft tall actor over one that's 5'8". It's not insecurity, it's job security. Find something else to talk about.
