The stewardess were always models. Everyone dressed up. Every single person was clean, polite. Civilized. It was the buses that the bad people used to get around. The planes were for the civilized. Now, the planes are the busses. Dirty, obnoxious morons on parade. America is just a memory now. Just a word, and tales of olde. Nobody even believes what it was like anymore. I was there. It was a whole different world. It was diversity, inclusion and tolerance of the intolerable that destroyed everything.
ОтветитьThank you for this vid
ОтветитьLOVE YOUR CHANNEL! My mom was an "Air Hostess" in 1951-54 for TWA. So many great stories! I love your old school TV as a screen! Very creative. And YOU are a wonderful host.
ОтветитьBlinded by the white
ОтветитьAunty & uncle flew from Liverpool to the Isle of Man c1968. Photographer at the foot of the steps to snap you disembarking. They bought the photos obvs 🤣
ОтветитьWe had PanAm and BWIA. I always looked forward to wearing the travel suit my grandmother created along with my frilly ankle socks and gloves. Such an experience.
ОтветитьEnjoyed your video... I experienced some of the joys of flying myself
ОтветитьThe air hostesses were so amazing and pleasant back then. Now we get huge dudes covered in tattoos that smell like sweat and try to talk and be super feminine to "serve" us. I truly hate modern society.
ОтветитьStewardeses looked like models until early 2000s. Thats the sad part for me
ОтветитьGIRLS?? No doubt they are ALL plus 18 years of age. If they were MALE, I guess they would be called BOYZ?!
ОтветитьMy first flight 1957 when i was 7. Southern airways dc3 tail dragger. Dad and i wore coat and tie, lunch was salad, meat and veggies, and desert, real plates, cups, glasses, linnen napkins,
About halfway thru the stewardess took me up thru the curtains into the cockpit to meet the pilot and copilot.
Back when our country was decent, moral, and relatively safe. The good ole' days indeed.
The very rich still travel this way. They just don't allow us plebes to.
ОтветитьThank you, this was so fun to watch! I liked and subscribed within the first 5 minutes of watching!
ОтветитьFlying is largely democratized today... there's still exists a luxury class for the elite..
ОтветитьHow did they climb into those beds?
ОтветитьMy first flight was in 1952 when I was 4. It was a small mail plane from Detroit to Alpena to my grandmother's house. I got to sit on the copilot's lap😉. I went on to fly for 50 years. Yes we dressed nice for flights 😊 It was a luxury. I went to U of Hawaii in 1968 and worked. Flew to Santa Barbara CA and eventually back to Hawaii. Then trips to Big Sur a few times in 69 and 70. Moved to Portland Oregon for my husband's job. Flew back and forth to Michigan to see family. Became a Travel Agent in Boca Raton FL in the 80's. I flew Laguna Beach to see friends and family and later to Reno and Northern CA to see family. Flew to NYC. Flew to Bahamas and the U.S. Virgin Islands to see family. My clients were the largest companies in the world at their World Headquarters in Boca Raton. I flew the inaugural flight of the 747 from Honolulu to LA 1972. I met the pilots of my flight. The meals were good and service was impeccable and friendly. I flew PanAm, went to American and United. Eastern, TWA and my favorite became DELTA. My clients also. But it was a class act and a thrill to experience ‼️ I was hooked and loved it when the engine started and then took off. Seats were not that close. I met famous people on my flights and at the airport. I'm fourth generation to fly, my grandmother flew around the world with her best friend in the 50's. Remember the song "Come fly with me❓" So many wonderful memories❣️😊
ОтветитьI remember ashtrays in the seats at Radio City.
ОтветитьNot me watching this two weeks after being cramped on American Airlines in coach between Miami and London for eight plus hours each way.
ОтветитьLets you see clearly the lost of freedom...
ОтветитьI remember getting dressed up to fly - no raggedy jeans or flip flops. Public manners were exemplary then, and Passengers behaved. Food was delicious.
ОтветитьI took a 747 to Paris from Montreal , could get out of seat and go to bar upstairs with good looking stewardesses
ОтветитьLove it! Men needed managed, nowadays those feeling entitled, for whatever reason, need managed and manners are out the window. I first flew on TWA, Dad worked there at LAX, in 1963 at age 5. I got to pass out gum in a basket to passengers to aleve air pressure changes. What a world!
Ответитьnostalgia for what i missed -- i tried hard to become a stewardess, but they had very strict height, weight, and age limits -- no eyeglasses, MUST BE SINGLE -- i was barely within their limits, but never got picked. but one airline said they hired only one in FIFTY applicants! but even as a passenger, flying and airports were easier and much more fun than today!
ОтветитьRemember flying SFO to NYC in 1970s it was winter. I was dress to the "nines" including hat, pearls and mink coats. I was bless to fly 1st class on TWA, I still have the demitasse cup the stewardess gave me for letting them play with my mink coat. We had great fun and I was given the demitasse cup. Great times , I was bless to be a small part and witness to the "glory days".
ОтветитьWhen you flew over the hillbillies instead of Sitting next to them.
ОтветитьFirst and most importantly - You are adorable, Ritzy travel Guide- and I appreciate your work. This was a fun watch! Just an observation....Everyone is white except for the Jamaican Boat man jumping in to get the rare find in the islands (excluding the featurette of the Indian/"Hindu" flight experience and the "orientals in far Asia". It was the Golden age for only a few....Jim Crow was still in effect thru the last 60's.....just saying....I guess if you are white-skinned and male it was the "good old days," but I get the sentiment and it's use for framing it against today. Although I will say, I have flown first class on many a trip - and the quality exceeds this era ( what they have in the 1950's and 1960's) - but probably not as much fun inflight..
ОтветитьYeah, that’s when people had class even the lowest of people still had class. it’s a pitiful world these days. Lord Jesus come quickly. ❤
ОтветитьYou ate like royalty! And paid through the nose.
ОтветитьI was just a young boy when I started flying in the late 60's. The food was good and there was plenty of leg room but I was only 5 feet tall 😅
ОтветитьYes!! Being a Navy brat growing up in California
Whenever my Corpsman Dad was over seas Vietnam serval times and Japan
My Mom and we kids would fly back to Indiana and live with my Grandparents until Dad returned
I dreamed of being a flight attendant. ♥️🤍💙
I started flying in the colorful mid 60s - You did dress nicely and had plenty of room at your seat.
Now it's a cattle call - with baggage fees more passengers are bringing more smaller bags and stuffing the bins. Plus 11 seats in a row [3-5-3] is not a comfortable flight plus putting in more rows - less legroom - narrower aisles. I don't mind the security checks as much as I resent being stuffed into a sardine can. If I cannot afford to fly 'business class', I find some other way to travel. Never could afford the 50s type travel plus lack of airports within a reasonable distance. Last time I flew was December 2017. I don't miss it at all.
Adults behaving like adults too for the most part.
ОтветитьBring it back !!
ОтветитьI would have loved the Classy Air Travel of the 1950s and 1960s!! Thank you for the "Walk Down Memory Lane"!! 😊
ОтветитьAs much as I enjoy to learn how airline used to be 70 yrs ago, I’m grateful that they made airfare cheapen down so that I’m able to afford it. I as many other people don’t come from a wealthy family, so had they kept it the same way as it was before, I would never be able to fly anywhere.
Ответить💘
ОтветитьMan ur voice and the way you explain is something special loved this video
ОтветитьNow, people dress like Cabaret collided with the local gym when they fly.
ОтветитьThey were not packed like sardines! Woa!
ОтветитьIn my growing up years spent hundreds and hundreds of hours flying for my father’s work( he was a petroleum engineer) we flew on everything from BOAC,KLM,AirIndia, every single American carrier, Luftsthansa even Kuwait Airlines. Everyone from every nationality was civilized and on their best behavior. None of this nonsense and carrying on you see in airports today. Even Kuwait airlines, no matter how short the flight, you were served hot tea and sandwiches.period.
ОтветитьPeople were clean, well-mannered, and dressed well in those days. They also were more intelligent and had respect for others and common sense.
ОтветитьI'm only 53 years old...but it's funny how they went from serving peanuts when I was 18 to serving dry cereal now (chex mix)....lol
ОтветитьI took my first flight in 1974, and I can tell you that what I got in Economy back then is more than I get today in First Class.
Ответитьthe ONLY good thing about flying nowadays is: it costs less. But.... it can be hellish with spoilt kids kicking you in the back and the front seat bending into your knees. No room to move. Not pleasant. Prefer trains when possible,!!!❤❤
ОтветитьWhere are the hair bonnets, pyjamas and slides?
ОтветитьSo did we adjust the cost of flying to income ratio from back then vs now? I am thinking if an adjustment was made it would be closer to today's business class which is still quite comfortable.
