ОтветитьA good film. Really 'enjoyed' it.
However, there were too many bucket helmed high medieval knights in the mix. None of those would have been better. The armour of the 12th century is totally different to that of the 12th and early 13th century.
At the time of this battle Edward was a 6ft 3" 19-year-old, fighting in the front rank of his army.
Very different to the present King of England😂😂😂.
What a waste of human life. Such a meaningless war....
ОтветитьThose damn Lannisters
ОтветитьYou are using images from game total war... 😂😂😂
Very bad!!!
One war ,one winner mighty Lancashire 🏴
ОтветитьHow did they arrange a battle in those days? Did they send a message to the other army saying "meet you in Towton on Sunday at 12pm for a battle" ?
It makes me think it may have been better to secretly send small groups of fighters into enemy areas, like in Inglorious Bastards, to stealthily inflict damage onto unwary enemy fighting men. But I don't really know anything about this subject.
what mod is this?
ОтветитьStill with the crazy numbers? Edward didn't have the time of year to forge a big army, only a fast and nimble one. Over the Great North Road, through which the the Lancastrians had been over TWICE, Edward was supposed to find forage for a gigantic army? Alas, no, for the country would not support it. He moved quickly. That means a small army. FFS study basic logistics and look at these roads, and the time of year. Small battle BUT very important.
ОтветитьI recommend another video, but this time make it a map exercise with arrows showing who is attacking who at what time.
ОтветитьNot that many shields would have been used with full plate armour
ОтветитьGreat presentation.
However, I can't help but think that the widespread quality of armour, weapons and troop organisation is far too good for mass levy armies such as fought at Towton (1.5% of population)....let alone the willingness of the impressed peasant soldiers to actually fight.
Rounding up masses of local villagers and tenants of the lords (by commissions of array) does not a high quality army make.
Retinues of the great lords and magnates may have been of high quality. But they were a relatively small portion of the total mass of combatants standing on the field that day
sorry, to much animation and not enough information. top down view of units moving would have worked better and have been information denser
ОтветитьA map at the beginning wd have been very useful. Otherwise brilliant!
ОтветитьDay before towton saw at ferrybridge over crossing at River Aire over 3000 dead.
ОтветитьGotta love it when these channels quote wikipedia verbatim. At least put a LITTLE bit of effort into it. :(
Ответитьtroubles coocked in france with love...
Ответить"Towton" is pronounced "Touton". Edward was not yet king, therefore very unlikely to have been wearing a crown on his helmet.
ОтветитьSo in my calculations of deaths were 120,500 aboustlety mind blowing it will be scary fighting only because you see people slicing each other people getting burned
ОтветитьA bit late to the party , I studied the Battle of Towton at University and as people have rightly mentioned the sticking point was the number of casualties inflicted , The chronicles at the time suggested the dead at around 28,000 and this was widely circulated at the time but for the most part it was recognized as Yorkist propaganda to cement Edwards crushing defeat of the Lancastrians and to discourage future revolts and it worked as their was peace for some 9 years after the battle.
Actual casualties of the battle were are 7,500 Yorkists and around 12,000 Lancastrians and this is significant because only 10 years later as the wars re-ignited both armies could only muster half the amount that they did at Towton showing just how devastating that battle was , For instance at Tewkesbury in 1471 both sides could only muster around 12,000 men in total for both armies.
The real leadership of the Lancastrian cause was actually Margret, Henry's wife. Henry was incapacitated through much or most of the conflict.
Ответитьmy ancetor's head (peasant) was chopped when he complained the noise made from the army camp prior to this battle
ОтветитьA while ago I was looking through some of my family history documents and found that one of my ancestors actually fought in this battle, on the side of the Yorkists, I can’t remember what his first name was (I think it was John) but his last name was Hodgson, which is my mother’s maiden name, I know that he survived the battle but I can’t remember much else about him
ОтветитьPretty chintzy animation ...prefer to see battlefield maneuvers & tactics
ОтветитьIt is estimated that between 28 to 30 thousand men were killed at the battle of Towton.
Ответитьimagine what this army could have done had they been united
ОтветитьNicely portrayed although maybe too many men in uniforms.
ОтветитьSuch a good depiction. Interestingly, sorry to hear the pronunciations rather askew e.g. Dook not Duke etc.
In the recent book by Dan Jones on this subject estimates on the size of the armies are 48,660 Yorkists and 60,000 Lancashire with a total of 28,000 killed, figures given on 7 April 1461 by Bishop Neville of Exeter and repeated by Bishop Beauchamp of Salisbury a year later. (Both Bishops were at the battle).
The Biden of the Medieval period.
ОтветитьThey should have waited for spring? IDK but would've been warmer?👍
ОтветитьBrutal and disorganised, the english way
ОтветитьThe route would see small skirmishes probably 7 to 15 miles from the battle so i would imagine the clean up would be finding bodies and parts of bodies for few generations.
ОтветитьThis battle confirmed young Edward ( the 4th ) as king of England . The outgoing king Henry the 6th fled to Scotland but was captured after another battle in 1471 and was thought to have been quietly put to death behind the scenes so he could raise no more rebellions against Edward . Edward is thought by many historians as one of the great warrior kings of England . I don’t think he was ever defeated on the battlefield and was always present to lead his army

ОтветитьTow as in How not Tow as in Hoe Towton
ОтветитьPronunciation of Towton is a bit wierd by the way.......say it like when you hit your thumb with a hammer........T...OW !.....ton
ОтветитьNot sure what it is but when I look at English history........then hear an American accent.....I tend to run a mile.....I think its a reflex action 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
ОтветитьTo die...for the king....no greater honor for peasants...sarcasm
ОтветитьTop figure of dead is 60000 tho also 39000 dead and 25000 dead no real figures exist
ОтветитьI don't understand why the unit voices can't be changed since Rome 2
ОтветитьMad as the Casualties at Towton are alleged to be, Even the higher figures aren't that Insane if you include all the Camp Followers as well as the Fighters, Such as Sutlers, Blacksmiths, Priests, Squires, Servants, Whores etc that accompanied every Army & Knight, The Cock Beck is Arguably the Bloodiest Watercourse in all of Britain due to the number of Battles fought along it.

ОтветитьA bit like the Biden mafia,...
ОтветитьMy respect goes to the workers in the fields, while around them two armies clash and try to decimate the other...
ОтветитьModern estimates are between 3000 and 8000 casualties, prior estimates were exaggerations
