Titanic the movie was based on real life disaster. They may be new generations that haven't watched old movies, but they should be realizing that sooner or later.

My father also read the books to me and my brother first before we saw the movie.
Althoug the movie helped me understand it better since by then I was 6 years old and understood a lot more of it.

Tons of people watched it when it first came out but, if you weren't part of that initial craze for the movie in the 90's, there just really hasn't been a reason to watch it since

I’m not a movie watcher, so I’ve gotten used to recieving all the “WHAT?!” reactions when I tell people I’ve never seen Titanic, or Harry Potter, or LoTR, or Star Wars, or so on. Funnily enough I have seen the Disney movie, “Bolt” though...for some reason. lol

I would actually advise watching the LotR movies first. They're so great that you'll be hooked immediately. Then you can read the books and be wowed by all of the interesting stuff that the movies had to cut. Personally, I would recommend reading the Silmarillion after watching the movies. It's so content dense that you're not going to get bored (except for the map chapter, skim that one). Plus, when you finally read LotR you'll understand all the lore references and the poems. It just makes LotR even more deep and interesting.
