ОтветитьThank you. You didn't mention biotechnology/genetic engineering
ОтветитьI greatly appreciate your efforts in making all these maps. I would love to get a map of Aerospace Engineering!.
ОтветитьI would love to get a map of Aerospace Engineering!. I greatly appreciate your efforts in making all these maps.
ОтветитьI think this is a great map! I am currently a biomedical engineering student who switched into this major recently, and I’m honestly loving how practical and useful and interdisciplinary all of the engineering fields are. I definitely appreciate the depth of knowledge used for all of the products made from engineering.
ОтветитьI'm a software engineer. I love it, but I don't consider it real engineering- unless you're doing very intense core groundbreaking stuff. Still..i study engineering of these other types in my free time
ОтветитьIn Naval Engineering you stated that Fluid Mechanics was the study of how water moves and how things move through water. However Fluid Mechanics deals with much more than just water. From Wikipedia the definition of Fluid Mechanics is:
Fluid mechanics is the branch of physics concerned with the mechanics of fluids (liquids, gases, and plasmas) and the forces on them.
I would suggest that Fluid Mechanics belongs in the Mechanical Engineering area rather than the Naval Engineering one.
Then you stated that Software Engineering was responsible for the code that ran every computer and computer program on the entire Internet. This is utterly false. The Internet was created back in 1969 when there were no Software Engineers. Even looking at the Internet/Web today, a fair percentage of the code that runs the Internet has been written by volunteers. As for the computers, are you stating that every person that is a developer at Apple and Microsoft (for the desktop operating systems) is a software engineer? I just looked at a job posting from Apple for a Xcode Engineer and the education and experience required is "Bachelorʼs Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience." There are far more Computer Science graduates developing applications than there are Software Engineers, at least from my experience in my country, Canada. The Software Engineering program is much more difficult than the Computer Science program. An engineering degree hardly asked for as a job requirement for development jobs so the program isn't as well known. Why would one work a lot harder for a Software Engineering degree if it doesn't open the door to better jobs? Also, at the time I was going to university at least, the Computer Science program had a co-op work stream available while the Engineering school didn't. Taking the co-op meant an extra year to graduate but it meant graduating with a year and eight months experience. Sorry, got sidetracked. Not every computer and application is programmed by a software engineer. The posting by Apple looking for a person with a Computer Science degree proves that.
Where is water engineering tho.?
ОтветитьAs a recent graduate in ME it was fun to take this "walk" through the various engineering fields. The part about how interdisciplinary things can get is certainly felt in mechanical. It touches almost everything, and that was reflected in our curriculum of maths & physics, chemistry, materials, mechanics, energy, circuits, control, manufacturing, statistics, economics, ethics, and more.
One thing I would have added or at least mentioned are the traffic engineers and transportation engineers that move people and shape society. Besides novel computing and materials in the last century, transportation (and HVAC) have completely transformed the world.
No development without engineering
ОтветитьCivil engineering is what I put my things on. Chemical Engineering are fancy plumbers. Bio-engineering are more scientist. Mechanical engineering specify the nuts and bolts. Electrical engineers are your sparkies. Aerospace engineers just want to be rocket scientists.
ОтветитьYou forgot the industrial engineering
ОтветитьBest video about engineering ❤️
ОтветитьI greatly appreciate your efforts in making all these maps. I would love to get a map of Aerospace Engineering!.
Ответитьbrilliant! thank you!
ОтветитьParochial bias here, but I think you gave short shrift to Industrial, Manufacturing, and Operations Engineering.
So, your hotshot young mechanical engineer designs this cool new product called a "Wheel". That's great, were' going to sell millions.
Well, before you do that, you're going to need a factory that makes wheels, the tools that are needed to make wheels, a supply chain that delivers enough of the right stuff to make a million wheels at the right time, the correct number of people with the correct skillsets to use the tools to make the wheels, a process for making wheels consistently, someone to make sure that the wheels headed out the door are all round, someone to make sure that the people making the wheels are all going home with the same number of body parts in the same arrangement as they came in with, some way of tracking how many wheels were made, how many are in inventory, and how many have been shipped (hopefully to the right customers), and some way to make sure that the whole process from end-to-end is as efficient as it could be.
All of these come out of that Industrial/manufacturing/operational engineering area of knowledge, technique, and skill.
Mining engineering didn't get much of a look in, given that all metals have come from mines... it's quite distinct from civil engineering.
ОтветитьSofware engineers arent real engineers, if they are, might as well start calling chefs "food engineers".
ОтветитьEngineering is the application of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

ОтветитьDraw a circle around all of that and label it Test Engineering. Conformance of proposed solutions to required specifications is key to any of it. ENgineering is about numbers. Without that, you are in speculation territory, and test engineers tell you if you hit the target and by how much you missed it. It's overlooked, fundamental and a hallmark of someone who has not spent time in the trenches to overlook. Also, metrology, which is a subset of test engineering. Are your standards and measures any good? It's about numbers, amigo. Numbers. Your guess about concrete is useless without some metrics on performance. Ditto on time. Update the map please.
ОтветитьI’m hopefully going to study aeronautical engineering next year. Looking forward to it

ОтветитьHow about a map of the tree of life?
ОтветитьYet another great map from DOS! Wish I had this map when I was a young lad, trying to decide what to go into and what to study in college!
Two things I didn’t see and expected, both in electrical engineering (my field), were power engineering and video engineering. And maybe some kind of reference to the semiconductor manufacturing industry would’ve been nice. But it’s a great video and I’m gonna share it.
Engineering is a wonderful field of science. I am a mechanical Engineer. My AOS is in HVAC Engineering.
ОтветитьInformative
ОтветитьIndustrial Engineer here 🖐 ! it deserves its own section in the landscape: operations research, optimization, production systems, systems integration, facilities, installations, operations management, ergonomics, production planning, project management, costs analysis, organizational design, business processes... I suggest a revision
Ответить😂❤️
ОтветитьYou left out materials science engineering
Ответитьyou forgot industrial enginnering , which is my subject of interest
ОтветитьHe is really a hard working genius
Ответитьnot sure i'd call alien landing stations "vanity projects" but hey, who am i to judge
ОтветитьFinancial engineering is a tough one. It's not means to create objects things like all the others. But it's math heavier than the rest as it's all quant math and in the right hands you're an instant billionaire like jim simons.
ОтветитьAs a structural engineer, hearing you repeatedly go on about "Architectural engineering" irks me to levels I didn't know were possible.
ОтветитьHey, a Process Instrumentation & Control Engineer here. Would just like to add (instrumentation and control engineering) as it is the branch that establishes a lot of the connections between various types of engineering. It serves as the heart of automation and is crucial for ensuring the safe operation of all systems.
ОтветитьYou shouldve included "HVAC" in the mechanical section of the map. This is a large enough category that covers a substantial portion of ME fundamentals, and you omitted it and everything associated with heat transfer.
ОтветитьDid this guy just call the pyramids of Giza "Vanity Projects"😂😂😂
