How to Install PL-259 Coax Connector for RG58 (Warning: read description below)

Curious that they made the distance between the center conductor and shield so short by cutting the dialectic in this way. Way too close for comfort for me anyway.

You have to solder the barrel, if you dont the coax will be flimsy and shield will break away and fall apart due to stress on the connector

Cant for the life of me screw my pl259 on with the rg58 braid folded back, it seems too tight. Any advice from anyone?

if you were meant to solfer the braid then the chaiis of the plug would not have been made is such a way that you have to sand it to solder the braid correctly.

While the shield is making a connection to the barrel in this manner, it is prone to degradation and failure. Soldering it to the barrel is proper, that is what the four holes are for.

In the demonstration on the video, it is shown that when soldering the centre conductore it should be done in stages. That is to stop over heating the conductore too much and consiqwently allowing heat to travel up into the dialectric.
