Nikon P950 Unboxing and Initial Review

No USB-C. No touch screen. Need to charge the battery while it’s inside the camera. No thank you. I will not be using this to take my 2000mm zoom photos with flash 😤

2016. P900. 2020 P950 . Technology price from 2016 didnt drop a cent. Where is logic in that? The cost of this unlocked version should be the same as it was P900 4 years ago. This is obviously a money grabber. This should not be legal!

My P900 died a few days ago. It had at least 4 issues overall. First the
tripod head mount thingy broke out. The screw hole was not centered. So
the weight was not balanced. The speaker stopped working earlier on.
The rubber grips started to fall off which would leave a gel like sticky
glue all over my hands. Which seemed to happen right before someone
would want to shake my hand. Then the zoom started to act up and it
would get a lens error message. You can't do anything when this message
comes up except turn the camera off and then on, then off and then on.
Now the zoom won't do anything. The camera will not correct itself.
While I have enjoyed the reach, the reliability issues will lead me to
looking at other brands for replacement. I don't want to spend 800 or
1000 just to have the next camera break in 5 years. I have a camera my
grandfather had during WW2 that still works but the Nikon P900 died
after 5 years.

Nop !! It's not just for super zoom. It takes very decent macro. And do wide angle macro, night portraits and many interesting stuff. So putting on an external flash with diffuser is a really big step. You will have to spend much much more for a DSLR with the appropriate lens set matching the features included in this one cam. Sooo I won't be complaining about the price.

Nice overview. I have the Panasonic FZ80/82 which has a great zoom range too. It is a fixed screen whereas the Nikon has the flippy but at least the Panasonic has full touchscreen functionality. just don't understand why the Nikon does not have it-a real shame and deal-breaker for me.

Great review. Looking for more zoom over my FZ300, the FZ80 has enough zoom, cheap price, compact size and not very heavy, plus great reviews; but I don’t like the operation of the manual focus override. Tried out the manual focus on the P950 and it seemed to be quick and accurate, plus unlike the FZ80 you don’t have to take your eye off the view finder to use it. Just not sure at this point how much lugging around I want to do with the P950 which to me personally like a brick.

Hi - just sold all my dslr equipt to switch to point and shoot. It's a hobby , not professional. I was all set to purchase the P950 but now am not sure.........I am not interested in the video stuff. But I love macro so I need a good zoom. Any thoughts? Thanks

I just bought a small adapter so i can charge it with my USB micro stuff. Not ideal, but i got around it.

Watching many videos (like yours) on the 950, I’ve noticed quite a bit of noise from the zoom motor. I have the Sony RX10 mark 4 which is fairly quiet. I wondered how much zoom noise would be picked up even with an external mic?

People complain about the silliest stuff on a camera. Next someone will be mad cause it can't make them a soy latte

On the Micro USB issue, there is a reason for this. Micro USB sockets have lugs that go through a PCB and give them lots of mechanical strength. Most USB-C sockets are surface mounted to the board. There is not yet a reliable source of stronger USB-C sockets for mass production. Also, USB-C needs a chip to negotiate the connection, and that's often unreliable in high current applications unless you use more expensive cables. A lot of Japanese radio equipment has gone from proprietary chargers to Micro USB for the same reasons: high current and mechanical stability.

I have a portable battery and I can use the cable but, Is it still usable while charging?

Does the lens cap have a string to keep it hanging and attached to camera.

The Panasonic FZ300 has a similar manual focus rotary dial just like this P950.

The 950 works great but needs a lot of light..

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. NO NIKON EN-EL20 BATTERY AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET. IT SEEMS NIKON DISCONTINUED THIS PRODUCT.

The Nikon P950 is the only camera that I use for my long distance photography. I’m very impressed with the quality. I like shooting 200 and 300 yards away. It’s a top notch camera for me. ❤❤❤
