How interesting it is to look back to 2016 and watch an olympic marathon before the “super shoes” era!

The evolution of the sport is amazing!

This race surely deserves an asterisks, because the guys who won had the super shoes and most of the others didn't.

I hate kilometers. There's no reason for it in sports. This isn't a science experiment. There's no reason to make the "math" easier in a foot race or any sporting event, because there's no math that needs to be done. Sports are about feel. Humans feel miles, we feel mph, pounds, inches, feet. These are all based on humans. The stats in sports mean little if you don't feel them. The kilometer is arbitrary just as much as anything is arbitrary, but actually more so. You get no sensation from it. It's based on the distance light travels over some length of time. It's ridiculous to use it for human sports, you nerds. All of the metric system is arbitrary as anything in sports, so why use it? Answer: The only reason it's used is because psueodo intellectuals and their even less intelligent admirers rule the world. Some smart people want it, but they're just dweebs who don't care about sports. The mile is based on a human sensation of large distance. You'r a weiner if you use kilometers.

Why couldn't these commentators bother to learn how to pronounce Meb Keflezghi's name. And then, to add insult to injury, they make the comment that Rupp would be the first American to medal since Frank Shorter, forgetting Meb's silver medal and then "correct" themselves by saying the "first American-born" runner since Frank Shorter. It isn't as if Meb started his running carreer in Eritrea and then move to the US. He came to the US as a child and grew up in the US. It was pretty insulting to a great American athlete.
