As you said sir, that you personally haven't heard or used this idiom, I want to share with you the fact that where I have heard this idiom before.
I've heard this idiom in a sitcom, where a woman(who is from a sophisticated family) said about a girl(who is from a middle class family) "She takes the cake, the baker and the bakery in the middle class department."
