Fantastic. 3 and 1/2 years ago I was a Security Guard. I went to an online IT Technical school gained several IT certifications and then got hired as an IT Support Specialist, was promoted to IT Support Lead 9 months later, did that for a year and then became a IT Infrastructure Engineer. Which I've done for over a year now. It was a lot of work, but it has been worth it. Great pay, benefits and love having the holidays off with family.

Josh, with all due respect, I think you should consider some things here.

Most notably, placing Security Plus in progress after getting a Google Cybersecurity certificate might be considered lying on resume in some places. Not to mention illegal in some places like California (look it up). Plus, there s some flaws with the Google Cyber. Jon Good pointed it out, but you chose to ignore it instead of being blunt about it might seem like you pushing for it rather than something recruiters might know well. Also, you seem to have some moments that you tend to be hypocritical about. You keep on saying get Google rather than Security Plus but tend to say Security Plus could be helpful. Like I said, with all due respect.

if you got one of the CS degrees and decided you wanted to go back to WGU and get a Software engineering degree, do a lot of those classes transfer and then you can finish a second bachelors really fast?

Community college was useful for me for saving money and getting my general credits out of the way. I didn't really meet anyone and just played video games when I wasn't in class because it was so easy.

Once I was in university I met a ton of people and went to a lot more parties... Didn't do anything with my history degree but it was still a good time and helped me build the social skills I use in the office 🤷

You really need to have all 5 things at the bottom there to be a perfect well rounded candidate. I’m missing the education piece so I’m back at school at WGU.

I have 6 years experience in the IT field and I want to do like online university like WGU because I really want to just move into a more senior level position and I feel like I need a university degree for it. Certifications do work but it has only gotten me so far and not many were willing to give me an opportunity and I just want to work abroad as well.

Hey Josh, I need your help.
I have a 3 year higher education from Ghana and I want to pursue a masters degree here in the United States. However, my application to pursue masters degree with WGU has not been successful because they require a 4 year degree from an accredited university.
I do have some 3 certification so far :Sec plus, CEH, & CISSP.
How do I leverage my work experience and certifications to be able to get a masters degree here in the United States?
Thank you

Keep in mind that certificate is not the same as certification, a certificate of completion doesn't provide confidence to the person reading your resume because it's mostly unchecked versus a certification at least would require an actual exam to pass. I would not put any certificate on my resume if I am looking for a role.

This currently relates to my major change with school and optimism for my career journey! There was a lot of helpful tangible information in what you presented! Thank you so much, as I have been studying cybersecurity for a while now independently. This should help further move along the process for me and give legit credit for pursuing a job/career!

Really solid advice here. I believe you can definitely utilize the employability framework mentioned to fit your needs. I wouldn’t be afraid to look into SysAdmin jobs as well, and then focus on security-specific functions. Great stuff!

I want to get a job working in GRC as a compliance analyst or something similar, would you recommend your cyber course to help someone who wants to work in GRC or is your course more targeted for those that want to work in defense/blue teaming? If not your course can you make a video on what path someone can take to work in GRC with no experience.

I heard cybersecurity isn’t entry level you will need to switch later the line … so I’m saying which is best way to enter IT help desk or other technical role like back end or so .. is it easier to get IT help desk if you have some other technical experience?? ( I really didn’t enjoy my backend role )

Hey Josh,

I’ve came across your content, and I was interested in going your cybersecurity course. I am someone who struggles with finding a job due to lack of job experience and skill. I was curious to know, Since I have a MacBook with a m3 chip and I know MacBooks can have some limits when building a home lab. I’m wondering if I can take your course with my MacBook or would I need a pc instead ?

Entry level I.T. is far too heavily saturated right now unfortunately, being an employers market plagued with ghost jobs, unrealistic "entry level" qualifications/requirements, low pay and horrible hiring practices make breaking in seemingly impossible. The gatekeeping continues where everyone who started is an expert and giving someone a chance is asking for too much apparently.

Hey Josh!

I’m currently enrolled in your CourseCareers IT program, and I will graduate soon. I’m coming from the HVAC field and I am highly technical, with tons of experience working with software and programming new equipment. I’m moving to Japan to be with my wife in October. What would you recommend doing? Any advice is appreciated!
