The reason Yogis sit on a mat.. originally an animal skin.. is specifically to insulate themselves from the earth energy, and make it easier to attain concentration in the upper chakras.

The Hopi Indian Kivas are a hole carved into rock, where they conduct their ceremonies & meditation etc.
They stated that it helps one contact spirit & the ancestors etc..

Western scientists tested and found the rock shields the practitioner from the earth's magnetic field, and the ambient frequency (schumann resonance) is greatly increased.

Yoga is usually performed on yoga mats these days, but not known of doing yoga on metal objects. Should try doing yoga on a metal base, probably it would change our mind set and our body.

My opinion:

All the yogas are done standing, sitting and curves. Looking at this, we can tell it has enough space for standing and sitting. With that this curve on two sides helps support the body to have right curve with body damage and limits the curve for the best benefits.

Vimanas come to mind. If not a direct depiction of the Vimanas itself it seems to be a potential derivative practice. In other words, maybe they pose in those things because long ago the Vimanas were real and known and use magnetic energy as well. So an homage to them, inspired by the real ones
